🌊 English Riviera Escape – Paignton & Beyond
There’s something so effortlessly charming about the English Riviera 🇬🇧✨
Pastel beach huts lined up like a postcard, soft waves touching the shore, and that perfect mix of sunshine and dramatic clouds ☁️🌊
Paignton felt like a hidden gem — quiet, colorful, and peaceful. Walking along the seafront, spotting the iconic red telephone box, and just slowing down for a moment… it’s one of those places that makes you appreciate the little things.
Paignton Pier is one of those places that captures the essence of the English seaside. Walking along the wooden deck, with the sound of the waves in the background and the open sky above, there’s a simple kind of calm that’s hard to describe. The mix of traditional arcades, small attractions, and coastal views creates a nostalgic atmosphere — a reminder of classic British seaside culture.
It’s not just about the pier itself, but the feeling of slowing down, taking in the moment, and enjoying the little details along the way.
A quiet escape with just the right amount of character.
If you’re looking for a calm coastal escape without leaving the UK, this is your sign 💙

A Walk Around Historic Devon House in Kingston
Devon House is an easy Kingston stop when you want a little architecture, open-air wandering, and local atmosphere in the same visit. This set stays focused on the historic estate itself: the grand front facade, the landscaped courtyard, a smaller on-site building, and another wide angle that shows the scale of the white wooden house. I chose four photos rather than padding the set because each one gives a distinct sense of the grounds and none is simply a tighter crop of another. It works well as a relaxed daytime stop before moving on to the nearby food and ice cream areas, especially if you want something beyond a quick city drive-by. #travel #kingston #architecture

Paignton in July
#travel2026 #beachlife #localfood #staycation Lovely solo trip to Paignton. Amazing area with a blue sea! Plenty of things to do and food to eat. Loads of Arcades and bars. The beach was nice and the sea was warm enough to swim in. There was quite a few people paddle boarding or out on their boats and jet skis. I also seen a few people fishing and some proper English entertainment!

A Memorable Journey on Waterloo to Kingswear Steam Dreams
This trip, from Waterloo to Paignton and Kingswear with Steam Dreams, stands out as the best I've taken with them so far. From beginning to end, we were looked after exceptionally well in the Pullman Class by courteous and attentive staff. They handled everything seamlessly, ensuring no issues arose throughout the journey.
The food was phenomenal, starting with champagne on arrival and continuing with breakfast, pastries, a four-course evening meal, and petit fours. Tea and coffee were plentiful, alongside a £21 alcohol allowance. The carriage's decor was stunning, with well-arranged tables and impeccable food service. Our two attendants were fantastic, smiling all day long despite their early 3:00 AM start. Even when we left the train at 9:45 PM, they remained cheerful and dedicated.
The carriage manager was great at keeping us informed about the day’s schedule, leaving no questions unanswered. Travelers could board the train at Waterloo or other designated stations, with a vintage diesel engine until Taunton, where the steam engine took over. Initially, the ticket seemed expensive, but the experience proved it to be worth every penny—truly excellent value.
At Paignton, passengers had the option to visit either Paignton or Kingswear. We opted for Kingswear and enjoyed a free ferry ride to Dartmouth, with over three hours to explore after showing our ticket. The heritage line between Paignton and Kingswear added a special touch.
Overall, it was a long but remarkable day, one that I wholeheartedly recommend to others.

Totnes christmas market
Totnes was a beautiful and quirky little town we visited. So many independent little shops selling things such as vintage clothing, jewellery and crystals. We was lucky enough to go on the day of christmas market which was so pretty and lovely. As a vegetarian they has plenty of food options like burgers and kebabs and even better the actual bakeries in totnes had plenty of options too such as a delicious hot vegan sausage roll. My bf, who is a meat eater had plenty of options but ultimately decided on a nacho bowl loaded with doner kebab and plenty of toppings. Despite there being plenty of sweet treat options such as cookie pies, doughnuts and brownies i decided on a nutella crepe which was jam packed with chocolate and delicious! If you have the chance to go definitely do it even if you go charity shopping and for a nice pub meal it’s worth it! #totnes

Exploring Paignton & Coastal Vibes: Here’s how I spent a sunny day soaking up British seaside charm 🌊🏍️
If you’re into ocean breezes and impressive motorbikes, Paignton is the place to be! Every Wednesday brings a unique motorbike event where loads of riders show up (think Triumphs and Harleys), all supporting local charities. It’s an epic mix of cool engines, good causes, and perfect photo ops with the sea as your backdrop. ✨
Top Things to Do:
1. Catch the Motorbike Event (Paignton Esplanade, every Wednesday evening)
Check out custom bikes, chat with the riders, and support a local charity—plus, the vibe here is super friendly.
2. Coastal Walks (Paignton Seafront, anytime!)
Take a stroll along the promenade for killer ocean views and classic British pier energy.
3. Grab Fish & Chips
Pro travel tip: Pick up some chips from a local shop like Paignton Pier Chippy (Promenade, Paignton, TQ4 6BW—open till 7pm most days) and eat by the water. Fries + sea breeze = unbeatable combo.
Getting Around:
Paignton is totally walkable for these spots. If you’re going further, local buses run all along the coast and are cheap. For motorbike fans—maybe arrive on two wheels and join in!
Insider Tips:
· Clear afternoon skies are perfect for photos—don’t forget your camera or phone!
· Everyone’s welcome at the biker events, even if you don’t ride.
· Bring cash for charity donations and little purchases.

Mercure Paignton 🇬🇧
I decided to check out the new Mercure Hotel in Paignton and it definitely didn’t disappoint.
This 4star sleek hotel across from Paignton Green is a few minutes walk from the beach and Paignton Pier, and a six minute walk from Paignton Train Station.
The polished rooms at the Mercure provide TVs , WiFi and safes , as well as en-suite bathrooms with rainfall showers and tea and coffee making facilities, also air conditioning and minibar in all rooms.
I had a king room with a huge double bed and a courtyard view , although some rooms feature sofabeds and sea views .
Dining options include a chic international restaurant, and a contemporary bar with a terrace facing the bay.
There is also a gym and onsite parking which is available for a fee , also a great buffet breakfast is available which was fantastic with both hot English Breakfast items and also the more continental style offerings , cold meats and cheeses , pastries and cereals, hot drinks and Juices.
Other hotel facilities include a 24hr front desk and room service , baggage storage and concierge and lifts to all floors.
This is a lovely modern hotel with friendly staff , great food and atmosphere and comfortable rooms if your looking for a more luxurious stay while in Torbay , I would definitely recommend and go back again I had a 2night stay and had a very relaxing time 👍🏼
