[History]
Established in 1898 (Meiji 31) as a Kabuto Beer manufacturing factory.
It conveys the spirit of entrepreneurs who boldly challenged major beer manufacturers, aiming to become a top brand from the regional city of Handa.
The designer was Tsumaki Yorinaka, one of the three great masters of Meiji architecture.
Tsumaki Yorinaka also worked on the decoration of Yokohama's Red Brick Warehouse and Nihonbashi Bridge.
The Handa Red Brick Building is a building with extremely unique structures, such as hollow compound walls and multi-arched floors, which are almost unheard of today, and there are very few remains of the beer factory, making it a valuable building.
Registered as a national registered tangible cultural property in 2004 (Heisei 16)
Designated as a modern industrial heritage site in 2009 (Heisei 21)
[Kabuto Beer]
In 1889 (Meiji 22), Nakano Matazaemon, the fourth generation owner of Nakano Vinegar Store, and Morita Zenpei, who later became the founder of Shikishima Baking, shipped over 3,000 bottles of bottled beer, named "Marusan Beer," from Handa for the first time. This is what would later become Kabuto Beer.
