The Hau Wong Temple in Kowloon City was probably built in 1730 or earlier to worship Yeung Hau King. The temple was taken over by the Chinese Temples Committee in 1928. During the period when the Qing government stationed troops in Kowloon Walled City from 1847 to 1899, many officers and generals of the Walled City visited the Hau Wong Temple to pay homage. Hau Wong Temple is one of the few temples in Hong Kong that still retains a large number of historical relics directly related to the Kowloon Walled City, such as the incense burner donated by the first Kowloon Inspector Xu Wenshen in 1847.
