It was owned by the Teutonic Knights from the late 17th century until the end of World War I. The present-day appearance reflects its late-20th-century reconstruction. 📌An eight-story watchtower dominates the entire complex. Buildings are arranged around it in a horseshoe shape, and the castle comprises numerous towers with bastions, battlements, windows, and arches. Two long bridges, each surmounted by a short drawbridge, create a fantastical design, crossing the deep dry moat surrounding the castle. The Knight's Hall and Armory, one of the few rooms to retain its original Gothic vaulting, are among the few remaining rooms. The Knight's Bedroom and Neo-Gothic Chapel, along with a Gothic altar and tombs, occupy the central portion of the castle.

The entrance fee is quite reasonable at around 150 CZK for adults and 100 CZK for children. The zoo is beautifully landscaped, and I loved the spacious enclosures for the animals. It was once the capital of the Moravia region. During the Thirty Years' War in the 17th century, it was occupied by the Swedish army for eight years before the capital was moved to Brno. However, Olomouc is still the religious center of Moravia. In the 18th century, it was promoted to the only archbishopric in the Czech Republic. There are many famous cultural relics and buildings on the Town Hall Square. The Holy Trinity Column is 35 meters high. There is a small church on the bottom floor. It is the tallest monument in Central Europe. This Baroque-style monument was built from 1716 to 1754 and has a history of nearly 300 years. Olomulus has 6 Baroque fountains, thanks to the city council. The early fountains provided drinking water for citizens. When most European cities removed the fountains after laying water pipes, the city council decided to keep it as a fire pool for fire prevention. Among the religious buildings, the most famous one is the Cathedral of St. Wenceslas (St. Vaclava), which was built in 1107. The church was rebuilt into a neo-Gothic spire in the 19th century. The tower is 100 meters high.
