[Kyoto] A rare sight of houses floating on the sea! Introducing the Funaya of Ine
Ine's Funaya, located in Ine Town on the Tango Peninsula, the northernmost part of Kyoto Prefecture, was the first fishing village to be designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in 2005.
The Funaya are believed to have existed since the mid-Edo period, and the first floor, which is directly connected to the sea, is a boat landing, storage, and workshop, while the second floor is used as living space.
In recent years, these precious houses that appear to be floating on the sea have been featured on television and other media, and have become popular tourist spots, attracting many tourists.
