Exploring the InterContinental Tangshan: A Cost-Effective Choice
Excellent Location
The hotel is located in the heart of Tangshan, boasting a prime location. It's right next to Wanda Plaza, offering convenient shopping and entertainment options. Opposite the hotel are the Tangshan Earthquake Memorial Square and the scenic Dazhao Park. It's approximately 2 km in straight-line distance to Nanhu Park. Taking a taxi to Nanhu Park is recommended, as parking can be difficult if you drive. The musical fountain at Nanhu Park is quite impressive in the summer. Moreover, Tangshan seems to be making efforts to improve its image, with a much cleaner urban environment after the recent incident.
Comfortable Environment and Attentive Service
Although the hotel's interior is a bit dated, it's perfectly acceptable considering the price and location. The service is excellent. Upon check-in, we received a complimentary fruit platter, two drink vouchers, and a spa voucher. Although we only stayed for one night and spent most of the day sightseeing, so we didn't fully experience the facilities and services, the overall feeling was quite pleasant. We didn't visit the lounge or experience happy hour, so we're unsure about the specifics.
Practical Room Type and Basic Facilities
We booked a basic king-size bed room and were luckily upgraded to a higher level room with a great view. The room itself is a little old, but it has the standard amenities of a five-star hotel. Perhaps considering the smog in Tangshan during winter, the hotel thoughtfully provides a PM2.5 air purifier. The toiletries are InterContinental's standard Byredo brand, which are quite good. However, the complimentary bottled water is Binglu; Nongfu Spring would have been a better choice.
Abundant Dining Options
Breakfast is served on the first floor and includes local specialties like qizi shaobing (chess piece-shaped baked sesame cakes) and noodles. The variety is decent and filling. While it can't compare to the breakfast at high-end hotels, it satisfies basic needs.
🛌Amenities/Facilities
The hotel facilities are a bit dated but fully functional. The PM2.5 air purifier is a thoughtful touch, given the local environment. The Byredo toiletries are high-quality, but the bottled water is a slight letdown. Although we didn't try the swimming pool or other facilities, the hotel meets basic living needs during a stay.
🏘️️️Room Type/Layout
After the upgrade, our basic king-size bed room was on a higher floor with a good view. The room layout is reasonable, with efficient use of space. The sleeping and washing areas are clearly separated, providing a comfortable living experience.
🧹Soundproofing/Cleanliness
The review doesn't explicitly mention soundproofing, but based on the overall positive feedback, the hygiene is good. The rooms are clean, providing a comfortable stay.
💰️Average Cost
The average cost is between CNY 400 and 500 per night, which is quite affordable. Redeeming IHG points makes it even more cost-effective, offering excellent value for money compared to similar hotels.
💗Other Tips
1. Taking a taxi to Nanhu Park is more convenient and avoids parking hassles.
2. The hotel is surrounded by shopping malls and parks. Plan your itinerary in advance to make the most of the surrounding resources.
3. If you're interested in the lounge and happy hour, inquire about the opening hours and other details at the front desk upon check in.
Overall, the InterContinental Tangshan has clear advantages, with a great location and affordable price. It's suitable for business travelers or families with children. Although a bit dated, its overall value is excellent, making it a worthwhile recommendation.
