A beautiful lake with a sad legend
#laketour
In the Dolomites in northeastern Italy, there are many lakes scattered around. One of them is Lake Misurina, the largest natural lake in the Cadore region. This lake is so beautiful that it has been nicknamed the "Pearl of the Alps".
Around this lake, there are many restaurants, shops and hotels. There are walking paths along the lake. You can stop and take pictures from any angle, and they will all be beautiful. But the shot that you can't miss is the yellow building in the south of the lake, reflecting in the crystal clear water, with the mountains as a backdrop. We went on a cloudy day, no sun, and it was very windy, so the water in the lake was rippling all the time. We didn't see the reflection of the building in the water like we usually see in popular photos, but it was still beautiful.
Other activities that we saw, besides stopping to take pictures, were people coming to fish and walk along the surrounding hiking trails.
There is a legend that the name of the lake, Misurina, is the name of a princess who was the beloved daughter of King Sorapiss. One day, the princess was walking in the forest and met a goddess who had a magic mirror that could read people's minds. Because of her willful nature, the princess begged for this magic mirror. This goddess also had a garden of flowers that she loved very much, but the flowers withered quickly from the sunlight, so she asked the king to solve this problem in exchange for a magic mirror. The king transformed himself into a tall mountain to block the sunlight, which is where the mountain named Sorapiss came from. However, during the transformation, the princess lost her balance and fell from the mountain to her death. The king was very sad and shed a lot of tears, which became Lake Misurina.
