[2025 Lake Tekapo Attraction] Travel Guide for Lake Tekapo / Takapō Scenic (Updated Jul)

Lake Tekapo in New Zealand's South Island! This town is famous for its starry skies. Apparently, they are aiming to register the starry skies as a World Heritage Site... I joined a stargazing tour! It was a tour to view the stars from the elevated Mount John Observatory, but unfortunately, it was cloudy and I couldn't see anything 😭 Although it's rare for it to rain during the summer, cloudy skies are quite common, so I recommend staying for several days to increase your chances of seeing the stars... However, it seems the best season is winter! Even in summer, it was cold at the summit, and they lent us down jackets, so in winter, proper cold-weather gear is a must! Also, if you want to take beautiful photos of the starry skies, a tripod is essential! Lowering the shutter speed helps capture stunning images. I had planned to take photos too, but... 🥹 That said, Tekapo doesn't have much to do besides stargazing, haha. During the day, I tried hiking Mount John casually, but it ended up being exhausting, haha. If you're into outdoor activities, hiking might be fun, but if not, make sure to prepare for a relaxing time 😂 To get to Tekapo, you can take a bus from Queenstown or Christchurch 🚌. However, be aware that the number of buses is limited! I definitely want to try again someday!

Although everyone would check in at the Shepherd's Church, I prefer to explore this town from different corners and a new perspective. ｜Transportation｜ It is most convenient to drive there, which takes about 3 hours from Christchurch. During the snow season, it is recommended to pay attention to road conditions and make good use of navigation and weather forecasts to adjust your itinerary. This is my fourth time traveling along the Tekapo Highway, and I am always surprised! ｜Recommendations｜ You never know what scenery you will see around a corner. This heavy snowfall is a surprise from God. Second time to New Zealand went to a new place - 📍Lake Tekapo After going it became my favorite + thought the most beautiful place at the moment Lake Tekapo is a stargazing town at night like 8pm or so the whole town of shops have to close to turn off the lights, the main road is very weak + will only light the underground lights💡 Because the accommodation in the stargazing town is quite expensive only stayed 2 days 1 night, because it coincided with the 15th day of the lunar month too bright to observe the stars 🔭 But! Mount John was shocked I (Pic 4-6) has an observatory for stargazing and the world's loneliest coffee shop, up to the top of mount john really seems to go to another planet, people say New Zealand is God's back garden, the moment really have this feel #New Zealand South Island #Ticapo Lake #John Hill #stargazing
