The second stop of the previous seven-day tour in Xi'an was Luoyang. When you come to Luoyang, you have to visit the famous Longmen Grottoes. The Longmen Grottoes are located near Luoyang city in Henan Province, and are a must-visit attraction when in the area. There are tens of thousands of statues of the Buddha and his disciples here, carved right into the rock face and in the mutliple different caves that are dotted along the limestone cliff face. There are said to be more than 2,000 caves and niches carved into the cliff, and the entire thing stretches over 1km. It's pretty impressive to visit and marvel at all the details. If you want a great view of the long stretch of carvings from afar, hop to the other side of the Yi River - there is a viewing platform where you can see a great panoramic view of the grottoes. If you’re looking for a place to escape new buildings and skyscrapers, Longmen is a good place for you. It’s doable in a day from Luoyang or Zhengzhou and you can have a nice walk around. Most pictures were taken with my DJI Mini 2.
