Historic buildings
Longmen Temple was founded during the Tianbao period of the Northern Qi Dynasty. It is located on Longmen Mountain, characterized by towering peaks and steep cliffs. The mountain is named for its resemblance to a dragon's head due to the protruding rocks in the valley, and the temple is named after the mountain. The temple is surrounded by three mountains and a river, offering a serene landscape. Notable attractions include Dragon's Mouth Water Spout, Stone Valley Dragon Gate, Golden Lamp Oil Flow, Banner Pole Sacred Brain, Five Sandalwood Noisy Locust, Transparent Spirit Stele, Bodhisattva Welcoming Guests, and Cliff Stone Buddha, collectively known as the "Eight Treasures of Longmen." According to records, during the Northern Qi period of the Southern and Northern Dynasties, Monk Facong traveled to this place from Wutai Mountain and established "Fahua Temple" here, which was renamed "Longmen Temple" during the Northern Song Dynasty. The existing halls and corridors are meticulously arranged. The central axis features three courtyards, with the east and west meditation halls and scripture houses forming distinct areas. The west side hall of the front courtyard was built in the third year of Tongguang in the Later Tang Dynasty of the Five Dynasties (925 AD), featuring a three-bay suspended mountain style, with no columns inside the hall, and beams and rafters that are simple and orderly, retaining the Tang style. Daxiong Hall built in the 5th year of Shaosheng in the Northern Song Dynasty (1098), three bays wide and deep, nearly square in plan, single-eave nine-ridge roof, glazed ridge beasts on the roof, ancient design, simple color, made in the Yuan Dynasty. The Heavenly King Hall has a flexible structure, with beams and purlins of varying cross-sections, clearly a Jin Dynasty construction. The rear hall has three bays, hanging mountain style, Yuan Dynasty design, while other halls were rebuilt during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
