It was my first ever trip to the East Malaysia, it’s so exciting to finally visit the land below the wind- Sabah. I’m honoured to witness the Mount Kinabalu in Kundasang, the fact that I’m already above 2000m sea level in Kundasang and seeing that even prominent and magnificent mountain is truly a stunning sight to behold. One of the activities to do in Kundasang is definitely to take a thrilling and adventurous ATV ride while enjoying the scenic view of the mountains⛰️. Secondly, take a sunrise climb to Maragang hill and you’ll be amazed by the beautiful sunrise and sea of clouds ☁️ do bring a headlamp and put on a windbreaker as it’s super chilling up there. Last but not least, you must not missed out the Desa Dairy farm which you could enjoy the fresh and yummy yogurt and milk. Also, you can try feeding the cattle with grass and milk. The 3 AM start might sound daunting, but it’s well worth the effort. 💫💫The real challenge was the cold; the early morning temperatures on the hill can be brisk, so dressing in layers is essential. 🥶 Reaching the summit just as the first light of day began to stretch across the sky was an unforgettable experience. The panoramic views from Maragang Hill are simply stunning, with layers of mountains and valleys spread out beneath a sky turning from velvety midnight blue to warm shades of pink and orange. ❤️It’s a perfect spot for photographers and nature lovers alike, offering a moment of sublime peace as the sun rises. Arrive at the Registration center and pay, fill in personal information + emergency contacts... 3am, take a four-wheel drive vehicle from the center to the starting point of the climb (about 15 minutes drive). The weather was not very good that day, it kept raining on the way up the mountain! ! Fortunately, the center has a raincoat for purchase (Rm 5)... The weather on the mountain is very cool, about 14, 15 degrees, and there is no light at 1 o'clock on the mountain, so if you join Sunrise Hike, remember to bring your own headlamp! ! In fact, the path is not too difficult, a bit like the road up the head of Lion Hill, but the road up the mountain is about 1.3km long. It's a little harder when it rains. At 320am I started walking with my climbing guide Jake, actually before 430am we had been up to the campsite... Due to the rain, the summit was unobstructed, so stay in the campsite slightly sheltered place for 1 hour, 530am then continue up, 15 minutes later has been up to watch the sunrise place. Although I didn't see the salted egg yolk + the sky full of stars this time, the view is open and the sea of ​​​​clouds is already very good After watching the sunset, follow the same path up and down the hill, and you can get back to the center before 8pm.
