Since Sundae Gukbap is famous, there were quite a few customers even though it was late at night. In order to improve the lives of farmers who were impoverished during the Japanese colonial period, the cooperative movement of intellectuals studying abroad in Japan was promoted, and finally, the first private cooperative in South Korea was established in the Hamchang region. After Japan made Joseon its colony, it exploited and plundered Joseon's rural areas in order to solve its chronic rice shortage. From the beginning of its colonial rule, Japan carried out land survey projects and implemented a rice production increase plan in the 1920s. All of these policies were aimed at solving Japan's rice shortage. The land survey project and rice production increase plan implemented during this period turned 80% of farmers into tenant farmers, and landlords transferred various burdens such as irrigation association fees and fertilizer costs to tenant farmers, and extorted 70-80% of the rent. Landlords' tenant management was also strengthened, and they thoroughly controlled everything from the instructions for varieties to cultivation techniques, fertilizer types, and agricultural tools used and harvest times. The representative clothing that comes to mind when thinking of the king is the Ikseong Gwanbok, which was most frequently worn for official ceremonies and everyday duties. The Ikseong Gwanbok consists of the Ikseongwan, Gonryongpo, Okti, Beoseon, and Janghwa. The clothing worn during the highest state ceremonies• It is largely composed of the Myeonryugwan and Gonbok. The highest court robe that can only be worn by the ruler or those who have been granted the right to succeed to the ruling power. The queen's ceremonial attire was made and worn according to strictly defined rules, from shoes to hats and hair ornaments. When the Imjin War broke out, Sangju’s volunteer army, consisting of Changui-gun, Chungbo-gun, and Sangui-gun, rose up and began to fight against the Japanese army. They attacked the Japanese army stationed everywhere and threw them into confusion. The volunteer army was formed around local noblemen and Confucian scholars. They made their own slaves and tenant farmers take up arms, and organized the volunteer army by persuading scattered farmers and soldiers who had deserted from the ranks. Eumseong is a castle built to protect the town. Rather than a simple structure, it is a space where the lives and joys and sorrows of our ancestors who settled there for a long time are embedded. It served as a focal point for the region, with government offices, schools, private houses, markets, and other places of life inside. The Nakdong River originated from the old name of Sangju, Nakyang. It was called the Nakdong River because it formed a large river to the east of Nakyang. The large river provides a good environment for people to live together, such as water for daily use, and is also the foundation of all industries, including agricultural water. The Nakdong River makes Sangju's fields fertile, and the people of Sangju draw water from the Nakdong River to farm. People perform rites at every stage from birth to death. Koreans considered the rites of passage, wedding, funeral, ancestral rite, and rite as important rites throughout their lives. During the Joseon Dynasty, the roles and status of men and women were strictly divided due to the influence of the national governing ideology, Neo-Confucianism. Therefore, even within a household, the living spaces of men and women were separated, and a sarangbang (a room for men) was prepared separately from the main room. In particular, for scholars, the sarangbang had a special meaning beyond a living space. Scholars constantly cultivated their studies based on the ideology and morality of Confucianism, and at the same time, they considered poetry, calligraphy, and painting as essential knowledge and did not neglect them. Therefore, the sarangbang of the Joseon Dynasty became a study room where they cultivated their studies and a space for artistic activities. The sarangbang was a space that showed the owner’s taste and status. Scholars considered the splendor of wealth and honor vulgar, and decorated the Sarangbang with a simple yet neat style. The agriculture of Sangju during the Joseon Dynasty is the root of its reputation as the home of Sambaek today. Sambaek originally meant rice, cotton, and silkworm cocoons, but today dried persimmons are used instead of cotton. Sangju has maintained a tradition of rice farming since the Three Kingdoms Period, and it was a good land for growing cotton. Mulberry trees are widely known as a local specialty. In Sangju, the sericulture industry developed greatly during the late Joseon Dynasty and the Japanese colonial period. Since then, it has gained a reputation as the home of silk, representing Korea. Mulberry trees are recorded as a specialty in the 『Sejong Sillok Jiriji』, and the mulberry trees in Dugok-ri, Sangju, designated as Gyeongsangbuk-do Monument No. 1, speak of the long tradition of sericulture. The sericulture industry, which involves planting mulberry trees to raise silkworms and spinning silk to make clothes, is as old and important an industry as agriculture. The first record of Sangju dried persimmons appears in (Yejongsillok). In the “Sinjeung Dongguk Yeoji Seungram,” persimmons are recorded as a specialty of Sangju. The raw material for dried persimmons is the bitter persimmon called “Sangju Dongsi.” The land where persimmons grow well, combined with the climate with a large daily temperature range, produces dried persimmons that are delicious enough to be presented to the king.
