Luxembourg: A Wealthy and Tranquil European Microstate
Luxembourg boasts excellent public safety, friendly residents, and free public transportation throughout the country. While French is widely spoken, English is also commonly used for communication.
🙋🏻 The main attractions in the city can be explored on foot.
🖤 Adolphe Bridge
One of Luxembourg's most iconic landmarks, this stone arch bridge was once the largest of its kind in the world, spanning 153 meters. Built between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the bridge connects the old and new city districts across a gorge.
🖤 Place de la Constitution
This square is marked by a monument completed in 1923 to honor the 3,000 Luxembourg soldiers who perished in World War I🪦. After being destroyed during World War II, the monument was rebuilt, giving it dual significance. Standing 12 meters tall, the monument is topped with a statue of the Goddess of Victory, crafted by local artist Claus.
🖤 Palace of the Grand Dukes
The official residence of Luxembourg's Grand Duke, this palace also serves as the seat of the Grand Duke's authority. Its architectural style is influenced by Italian Renaissance, and the interior is lavishly decorated.
🖤 Scenic Promenade
Located along the Alzette River in the Grund district, this defensive wall is often referred to as the most beautiful balcony in Europe. Once featuring steep staircases, the outer protective walls were removed after losing their defensive function, creating a gently sloping 360-degree viewing platform with stunning views of the Grund Valley.
🖤 Notre-Dame Cathedral
Constructed between 1613 and 1621, this Renaissance-style building was originally a church school rather than a cathedral. After an expansion in 1935, three spires were added, transforming it into Notre-Dame Cathedral. Also known as the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin, it houses a statue of the Virgin Mary.
🖤 Place Guillaume II
Located in Luxembourg's old town, this square is named after King William II of the Netherlands and Grand Duke of Luxembourg. The city hall and tourist information center are situated here, and the square features a bronze equestrian statue of William II.
🖤 World War II Memorial (1940-1945)
🖤 National Museum of History and Art
Situated near the Grand Ducal Palace, this museum has two levels: the upper level showcases photography and paintings, while the lower level exhibits historical artifacts.
