Take a Road Trip into Betong from Northern Malaysia, at the edge of Perak at The Betong Border Checkpoint.
Betong is a charming town located in the southernmost province of Thailand.
For a fun, relaxing and short getaway, here are a few suggestions based on my itinerary.
Day 1: Arrive and fill out forms at the Thai border. Next, explore Betong Town. Have some fish maw soup for brunch before sightseeing.
Attractions in Town:
- Betong Mongkollit Tunnel
- Bronze Buddha complex (Phra Mahathat Chedi Phra Phuttha Thamma Prakat)
- Kuan Im Temple
- Sud Sid Siam Park
Day 2: Head further into Betong for camping and durians! Take time to relax and enjoy nature. Attractions nearby:
- Skywalk Ayerweng *Get there early as it might be too hot during noon.
- Winter Flowers Garden
- Betong Hot Springs
Day 3: Start the day with dim sum in town. Spend the day cafe hopping and shop for snacks and more at 7/11 before heading back home!

2. Phra Mahathat Chedi Phra Phuttha Thamma Prakat
+ Huge temple complex of the bronze Buddha and golden temple. Walk or drive up the temple for a beautiful view of the temple complex.
3. Skywalk Ayerweng
+ Walk on glass and view the beautiful rolling hills of Betong. During cold seasons, there will be mists which will make it magical.
4. Winter Flowers Garden
+ Beautiful park with many great photo spots for the whole family.
[Must-Try Food]
1. Restaurant: Lao Cai Fish Maw + Fresh and wholesome fish maw soup with quail eggs. *Get there early to avoid disappointment.
2. Krua Suan Pak + Stir Fried Coconut Heart and Fried Fish with Somtam. A little away from the middle of town, but simply delicious food.
3. Jiajai Coffee Bakery and Thai Desserts + Local Thai treats. *Get there early to avoid disappointment.

- Formerly known as Wat Ming Muang
- It is the temple of the sacred chedi for people born on Saturday.
- Contains the relics of the Lord Buddha.
- Located in Mueang, Tambon Nai Mueang, Amphoe Mueang, Nakhon Phanom Province.
- Open for the public to pay homage every day.
- Open from 5 am to 9 pm.
🙏 Inside the temple’s ordination hall, there is also the sacred Phra Phuttha Ming Mongkol.
- At the back, there is also a Naga courtyard protecting and guarding the green Buddha statue.
- You can go in and pay homage and ask for blessings.
🙏 It is a temple with important chedis of Nakhon Phanom Province.
