Qibao Old-Town in Shanghai
Qibao Old-Town is a small old town in the suburbs of Shanghai. It used to be a small village and nowadays it's one of the old towns that are quite close to Shanghai's downtown. So it's perfect for a weekend trip, you can spend about 2 to 4 hours to walk the old lanes, try local snacks or take a boat ride.
📍 Chinese name for navigation: 上海七宝古城
🚗 It's a 40-60 minutes ride from downtown. Taxi seems to be a little faster than public transport.

old Shanghai city is a iconic and destination place.
The Old City is the area inside the ancient walled city of Shanghai; it is one of the most picturesque areas of the city, with many buildings in traditional Chinese style. Administratively the old city is part of Huangpu District, but it has its own distinct character and many tourist attractions so we treat it in a separate article.
Yes, Yuyuan Old Street is one of old street in the city. No, they are different streets, but closeby. Go to google maps and type in Yu Yuan Old Street and Shanghai Old Street. Is SSAW Boutique Hotel close to Old Shanghai Street?

Explore the Charm of Qibao in Minhang
There are countless old streets in Shanghai, but Qibao is overflowing with people! Hello everyone, take advantage of the break to explore one of Shanghai's hottest spots, Qibao Old Street.
It's popular for a reason. Among the many ancient towns in Shanghai—Fengjing, Xinchang, Nanxiang, Zhujiajiao, and so on—Qibao is directly accessible by Metro Line 9, close to the city center, making it a great place for weekend shopping. Qibao Old Street is a heritage from the Northern Song Dynasty that has been upgraded and maintained over time, turning into a street full of cultural sentiment and delicious food. Its cultural background dates back to the Three Kingdoms period, to the grandsons of Lu Xun. These two grandsons did quite well for themselves and eventually had a temple built in their honor. Later, during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, a ruler passed by and bestowed a golden Lotus Sutra. Some flatterers claimed this was also a treasure, and since these grandsons had the surname Lu (which sounds like the number six in Chinese), adding another treasure changed the name to Qibao. There's also a legend that there really were seven treasures: the Flying Buddha, the Floating Bell, the Golden Lotus Sutra, a jade axe, jade chopsticks, a golden rooster, and a divine tree. Anyway, that's the gist of it; I'm not great with history.
The main streets of the old town are the North-South Street and Fuqiang Street, intersecting each other. There are many nice exhibition halls. Due to time constraints, I only visited two today. The Cotton Mill mainly talks about the story of Huang Daopo and the derivation of cotton. It's a good place for kids to learn, with two floors that aren't too big and not much excitement, but it's only five yuan, so why not stroll around? The Shadow Puppetry Hall mainly discusses the history of Qibao's regional shadow puppetry, which is different from that of Tangshan. It seems that they use real leather and have a style characterized by bright colors and light outlines. There are free shadow puppet shows on Sunday afternoons, and the ticket is also five yuan. The rest of the exhibition halls are all on the west side and along Fuqiang Road. I'll save Zhang Chongren, the Old Public Hall, and the Qibao Art Gallery for my next visit.
How could you come here and not taste the local specialties? I also followed a few food bloggers for recommendations (the last five pictures are all of them). The scallion pancakes are a must-try and not a disappointment at 6 yuan. The meat-filled glutinous rice balls are worth a try if you haven't had them before at 5 yuan each. Qibao's pan-fried buns didn't seem too different from others. I didn't try the spicy cry-cake as I can't handle spicy food and didn't have room in my stomach. The 'Four Like Spring' is just loin meat, no different from what you'd find at a breakfast stall, for 5 yuan. The warm father's rice wine is super tasty, and the owner even offers free tastings for 15 yuan. The large and flavorful 'Da Xi Bei' steamed cake is sweet and sour—watch out for the crushed date pits—a medium portion is enough for 15 yuan. The 'Ren Shou' stuffed egg is a duck egg and meat boiled together, with a deliciously fresh soup base, just like the old wontons from Tianjin Wei, for 16 yuan. I'll save room in my stomach to try other delicacies next time.
There's also a 'Marriage Lane' here, which I see is already filled to the brim, showing that people have a lot on their minds. I'm not sure if seeking financial fortune here will work, but I tried! The night view of the Floating Bell Tower and the Pu Hui Tang Bridge at the entrance is spectacular. For those who like this place, spend a good half day here to fully enjoy a feast for both your taste buds and your eyes, adding some flavor to your day off.

Shanghai is particularly famous for its ancient street ┃ Qibao Old Street!
🌈 Qibao Old Street is considered the smallest ancient town street in Shanghai. The entire Qibao Old Street is divided into two sections by a river. The North Street mainly features various craft shops, jewelry, antiques, calligraphy and painting stores, as well as attractions such as the Bell Tower, Cotton Weaving Workshop, Zhang Chongren Memorial Hall, and Qibao Shadow Puppetry Art Museum. Crossing the Puhuitang Bridge to South Street, South Street is known for its distinctive cuisine, with a dazzling array of treats like Begonia cake, hawthorn snow, sliced mutton, sauce trotters, and more, as well as traditional trades, the Cricket Cottage, Qibao Calligraphy Art Museum, Zhou's Micro-carving Museum, and the Pawnshop among other ancient town attractions!
🌈 A visit to Qibao Old Street for eating, drinking, and sightseeing takes about three to four hours. However, the weekends are bustling with crowds. If you don't mind the crowd, you can taste the special cuisine, experience the charm of the Jiangnan water towns, and explore the culture of the ancient town... It's also a great place to spend a leisurely weekend.

Qibao Old Street is the ancient town closest to the downtown area of Shanghai
🌟Highlights: Qibao Ancient Town is probably the closest water town old street to the downtown area of Shanghai. Many locals escape the high-rise buildings of the city center to come here to get a taste of the local atmosphere, leisurely stroll through the old street, take pictures of the night scene, and try the delicious food. Qibao Old Street is not very large, and it is easy to explore, with just two main streets, one focusing on snacks and the other on small commodities. Perhaps because it is close to the downtown area, the waterside scenery of Qibao Old Street is not pristine and is filled with a strong commercial vibe. Most people come here for the food.
❤Recommended delicacies: Old Street rice balls, sliced mutton, begonia cake, soy sauce pork knuckle, soy sauce pig's trotters, crispy skin vegetarian duck, beggar's chicken, Qibao square cake, salt-baked quail eggs, stinky tofu, etc., are all favorites among foodies~ The most famous are the rice ball shops on Qibao Old Street that sell rice balls by the 'piece'. These large and delicious rice balls are a must-visit for many tourists to Qibao, and for girls with a small appetite, one or two is enough. Peanut, red bean paste, shepherd's purse, purple sweet potato, fresh meat, sesame... there are many varieties, and of course, the most classic is the sesame filling. Another not-to-be-missed are the shops selling handmade dumplings in the ancient town. The wormwood green dumplings during the Qingming festival and the shepherd's purse dumplings when shepherd's purse is in season.
📝tips: The streets and alleys of Qibao Old Street, like many ancient town old streets, are more used for commercial purposes, with only the buildings remaining old-style. The shops on the old street are basically divided into two types, one is souvenirs and the other is food. Some souvenir shops are quite distinctive, and it is also a good idea to go in and buy some memorable items for relatives and friends.

The recent ancient town in Shanghai
Shanghai Ancient Town | Qibao Town
Qibao Town is named after the Qibao Temple. It still preserves the layout of the Northern Song Dynasty. On the old street, shops are densely packed, with North Street mainly selling general merchandise, and South Street mainly selling snacks. Among them, square cakes, soup dumplings, braised meat, and Qibao mutton are the most famous. In recent years, foreign foods have continuously invaded, such as barbecue, skewers, and Luckin Coffee, etc. I was fortunate to have eaten the fried dough twist from my childhood, the freshly fried kind, but it is 1 yuan more expensive than the refried ones.
Walking along the river, you can see that the old houses on the opposite side still retain their original appearance, the smoke and fire have not dissipated, people actually live there, and quilts are still aired on the railings by the river, retaining a bit of the charm of the Jiangnan water towns. It's just that the yellow pavilion at the end of the street, imitating a corner of the Forbidden City, is too abrupt.

Qibao Old Street
Qibao Old Street is the nearest thousand-year-old town to downtown Shanghai, and it is very convenient to get there by subway. The residences, shops, and bridges in the scenic area have Ming and Qing architectural styles. The small rivers crisscross the old street, the water passes through the arch bridges, and the bustling crowds and festive decorations converge into a strong New Year atmosphere!

I felt the New Year vibe of Shanghai on the old street
When celebrating the New Year in Shanghai, you must visit the Qibao Old Street in Minhang District. The ancient street that has been well preserved for a thousand years has the typical characteristics of the Jiangnan water town and is one of the 'New Ten Scenic Spots of Shanghai Charm'.
Qibao Old Street is divided into South Main Street and North Main Street, with shops along the street mainly selling special snacks and local specialties. Here you can taste Qibao Tangyuan, which has sweet and salty fillings, and is delicious and distinctive. The Shengjian and Xiaolong on the old street are also good, with thin skin and lots of fillings. Of course, you can also taste many special snacks in Shanghai, such as scallion pancakes, oil dregs, stinky tofu, etc.
There are also some attractions on the old street that you can visit, such as the Zhang Chongren Memorial Hall, Qibao Shadow Art Museum, Cotton Weaving Factory, Qibao Temple, etc.
If you are tired, you can find a teahouse along the river, drink tea and enjoy the scenery, which is very comfortable.

For hundreds of years, it has been spreading the gospel in each strike.

Shanghai Minhang! Qibao Old Street
Qibao Old Street, also known as Qibao Ancient Town;
Located in Qibao, Minhang, Shanghai, Qibao Town;
The Qibao Old Street encapsulates the essence of Qibao Ancient Town.
The approximately 200-meter-long north-south main street is the main trunk of the old street, branching out several streets to the east and west.

When I was a child, I often heard the sound of the crickets on the radio. After listening to the Three Kingdoms, I also understood the Suzhou dialect. However, today's bookstores are really rare. Most of the listeners are white and gray, which makes people feel sentimental. Perhaps this is the nostalgia. It is like the tea made by the tiger stove. It is warm and exuberant. Half a day. Speaking of Shanghai, many people's minds are the fashion devils with tall buildings, but behind the shadows, Shanghai has a gentle side, the bridges are flowing, and the scenery of the Jiangnan waters is beautiful. The so-called ten-year-old Shanghai to see Pudong, a hundred years of Shanghai to see the Bund, the Millennium Shanghai to see the seven treasures, and here the seven treasures refers to the Qibao ancient town.
Qibao is located in Minhang District, Shanghai. In the southwestern part of Shanghai, it is the same as the thousand-year-old town in the Taihu Lake basin in the south of the Yangtze River. It is a picturesque town in the city. Because it is close to the Shanghai area, it is always crowded, whether it is a weekend or a normal day.
Qibao Ancient Town, Shanghai people prefer to call it Qibao Old Street, whether it is from the ancient town area or the water area, it may not be comparable to the water town near Jiangsu and Zhejiang, it is just a few old streets, each one is not Long, but it constitutes an ancient town with a long history of humanity, the buildings along the street are antique, and rich in Ming and Qing architectural style. Shanghai people always go there from time to time, not to the other, just to come and taste the authentic Shanghai cuisine.
Qibao's South Street's special food gathering place, where you can taste many Shanghai specialties such as Qibao mutton, dumplings, stinky tofu, square cake, etc. Although the urban area has the same type, the taste is far worse. Authentic here.
