I spent the whole summer looking for a cool retreat with beautiful scenery and few people, and unexpectedly found this gem in the unassuming Dayi, Qinglan Valley, which is the perfect embodiment of my ideal summer resort hotel. Navigate to Qinglan Valley, just over an hour away from Chengdu. The last kilometer up the mountain is all big hairpin turns and the road is very narrow, almost impossible for cars to pass each other. The accommodation options include wooden houses, triangular wooden houses, and tents. We stayed in a tent because we like the feeling of sleeping in nature. The tent also has a bathroom, which beats many other tent campsites, but there are especially many mosquitoes and cicadas in the forest. The food is exquisite vegetarian cuisine, as the owner is a Buddhist. The dishes are very delicate and tasty, with three cold dishes, morel mushrooms, and wild mushroom chicken soup scoring high marks! The quality is comparable to well-known vegetarian restaurants in Chengdu, but the price is less than half. There is a hidden treasure waterfall near the hotel. To find it, turn right from the road to the hotel and go behind the white house at the intersection, then down to the river. Walk upstream to find it.
