[The train system is too complicated for first-time visitors 😭🇦🇹] ✈️ Vienna entry & travel guide from the airport to the city!! ️
For those who are thinking of traveling to Vienna! ✨ A thorough explanation of the immigration process and how to get to the city✍️
⸻
🛂 Immigration at Vienna International Airport
✅ Immigration process
1️⃣ After landing, go to the immigration gate! ✈️
➡️ The lines are separate for EU and non-EU people, so check the information board carefully👀
🔸 Personal experience:
The guide staff said, "It's the same no matter where you line up!", but in reality it was different...💦 The lines are separate for EU people, so be careful not to line up again⚠️
2️⃣ Immigration (passport check) 🛂
➡️ You will be asked detailed questions, so it's a good idea to prepare a basic level of English!
🗣️ Actual questions asked:
• Where are you planning to go?
• How many days will you be staying?
• What is your purpose?
🔸 Be careful with your pronunciation!
"Vienna" is "Wien" in German, but "Vienna" in English, so when communicating in English, say "Vienna" 🎤✨
🔸 Don't panic!
Not just at immigration, but sometimes you can't hear or understand what someone says because of their accent or the way they say it!
It's easy to ask "Pardon?" (That's fine, but if you don't understand even after asking again, you won't understand...), but I recommend that you communicate by properly explaining your situation!
"I'm sorry. I'm not English speaker so it's hard to understand what you say,,,🥺but, I will go to 〇〇with△△ for 〔business /sightseeing〕and stay ◻︎◻︎. This trip will be ×× days!" If you can say that, you won't be sent to a separate room in any country unless there is something suspicious!
〇〇 is your destination
△△ is your companion
〔 〕 is the purpose of your trip
◻︎◻︎ is your place of stay
×× is your period of stay
!
If you just memorize it, it will sound like "This guy👁️👁️⁉️ is he being told by someone...⁉️ is he doing some shady work⁉️" so try to explain it in your own words as much as possible💪
The immigration officer in Vienna was unusually (unusually) kind‼ ️

🚆 Traveling from the airport to Vienna city
✅ The easiest way is by train!
Vienna airport → The most convenient way to travel in the city is by train🚆✨
There are also dedicated high-speed trains, but if you want to keep it cheap, you can get there for just 2€!
🎫 Tips on how to board:
✅ There are no ticket gates, so be careful of free rides! 🚨
➡️ There are two types of tickets. Paper tickets purchased online or on-site. Paper tickets require a stamp when used (if you don't, you may be fined). If you use an online ticket, make sure you have a QR code ready to print at any time 📱
✅ The fine for free riding is about 100€ (about 16,000 yen) 💀
➡️ Be careful, as forgetting to stamp is also a violation ⚠️ Also, be careful, as some sections may not be covered even if you have an unlimited ride ticket!
✅ Even if you have an unlimited ride ticket in Vienna, you will need to pay an additional fee for some sections from the airport!
➡️ If you don't have a ticket when crossing the city border from outside the city, you will be fined, so you will need to purchase an unlimited ride ticket in Vienna, which everyone will probably buy, in addition to the ticket!
📝 Example: Things to note when purchasing a paper ticket
📍 Airport — (Point A) — 🚉 City border — (Point B) — 🏙️ Destination
• You need to stamp at Point A! If you do not stamp when you leave the airport, you will be considered a free fare rider⚠️
• When the ticket check comes after point B, present the QR code for the city unlimited online ticket! 📱
🎟 Recommended way to purchase tickets from the airport to the city border:
💡 Buy at the OBB counter at the airport for smooth travel! 💳
If you buy online, you have to figure out for yourself where the border station is, so it may be difficult for people coming to Vienna for the first time🙁
🎫 How to buy train tickets online
We explain with pictures!
The two apps you will use when traveling to Austria are the ones in the second photo. I think you will use the right one when you are in Vienna and the left one when you are outside Vienna.
As an example, we will explain how to purchase a Vienna unlimited ticket (commuter pass) with the app on the right.
1️⃣First, open the app and select ticket at the bottom as shown in the third photo.
2️⃣Go to the top as shown in the fourth photo to select the type of commuter pass. You can see that you can choose 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, 1 week, or 1 month.
3️⃣The fifth photo shows the details of the commuter pass.
4️⃣After reading the details and agreeing with them, all you have to do is follow the instructions in the app to purchase.
You can see from the remaining photos that this app also offers discounts at tourist facilities and express trains that are expensive but very convenient for traveling from the airport to the city.
By the way, I don't recommend tourist passes very much. Vienna's tourist pass was cleverly designed so that the less popular the place, the higher the discount rate, and the more popular the place, the lower the discount rate. 🤔It may be updated, so please check it out for yourself! ️
Also, the app on the left can only be used when you know the departure and arrival stations. When traveling long distances, you can buy it at about half the price of omio, so it's recommended. If you know where the border station is when traveling from the airport, I think it's a good idea to buy it here.
