A Night of Serenity at Wat Phra Singh Woramahawihan
As I stepped into the enchanting grounds of Wat Phra Singh Woramahawihan, the temple complex shrouded in the quietness of the night, I was transported back in time. Nestled in the heart of Chiang Mai, this majestic temple seemed to grow more mysterious and intriguing as the moon rose higher into the night sky.
Wat Phra Singh, with its rich history dating back to the 14th century, houses the remarkable Phra Singh Buddha image, believed to be modeled after the Lion of Shakya, symbolizing Buddha himself. Despite the tranquil silence that descended on the temple with the setting sun, the spiritual significance and historical resonance of this place were palpable.
Nightfall at the temple was a magical experience. Bathed in soft moonlight, the golden chedi glittered, an ethereal beacon standing proud against the starry backdrop. The quiet rustling of leaves, the distant chime of bells, and the whispered prayers of late-night worshippers added to the enchanting atmosphere.
There were no bustling markets or street food at this hour, yet the serenity and spiritual aura of Wat Phra Singh were captivating. It was a journey of introspection and peace, a deep dive into Thai culture and history that far transcended the usual tourist experience.
My visit to Wat Phra Singh was more than just a trip; it was a spiritual pilgrimage and a mesmerizing exploration of Thailand's rich heritage. This temple, especially under the cloak of night, is a must-visit for every #urbanexplorer.

The stunning Wat Phra Singh in Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai has an amazing assortment of temples and it is one of the city’s greatest draws. It was once the capital of the Lan Na kingdom in Northern Thailand for nearly 500 years, and this explains why so many ancient temples are found here, including several of the most beautiful temples in all of Southeast Asia☺️
As seen in my pictures, this is One of the most beautiful temples in Chiang Mai~The #awesomepic a Singh#######
Beautiful Temple in Chiang Mai
We visited Wat Phra Singh, the most popular temple in Chiang Mai and a stone throw’s away from our hotel. This temple complex houses the city’s most important Buddha image, the Lion Buddha, it dates back to 1345, when Chiang Mai was the capital of a growing Lanna Kingdom in what is now Northern Thailand. This is inside the Wiharn Luang. This assembly hall was rebuilt in the 1920s on the site of the original structure from the 14th-century.Its interior houses a large seated Buddha image, Phra Chao Thong Tip, cast from gold and copper in the 15th century. We really took the time to roam around the Temple grounds, a must visit in Chiang Mai🤣#awesomepic #thailand #foodie #tripblazers #urbanexplorer #本地遊

A visit to Wat Phra Singh gives you a rich glimpse into Lanna temple art and architecture. The main entrance is guarded by Singhs (lions). Most of the buildings have undergone several renovations but still retain the original feel. I am amazed with the arts and carvings. Glimpses inside the temple are wonderful. This temple was build in 1345 and I felt it was one of the better kept temples in old town. If you look closely at the interior walls, you can still see the old artwork which every visitor should spend some time look at. Worth going.
#GiveThanks
Temples aren’t my thing to be honest but since I was in Chiang Mai, temple was a must! Went here because this was one of the famous temples in Chiang Mai. You need to pay around 20 bath and for girls, don’t wear shorts/short skirts and tank tops. Because you may need to “rent” a scarf and pay extra bit of money. There were Monk wax statues inside the temples. They looked so real. At first, i thought they were real Monks. That made this temple my favorite one.
Wat Phra Singh

One of the places we went Wat Phra Singh. Temples are one of the attractions in Thailand. Wat Phra Singh looked very spectacular with its shades of white and bronze structures of temples.
Thailand Travel | One of the Three Must-Visit Temples in Chiang Mai Old City - Wat Phra Singh Chiang Mai
Wat Phra Singh Chiang Mai
Wat Phra Singh
วัดพระสิงห์วรมหาวิหาร
Wat Phra Singh was first built in 1345 when the fifth king of the Mangrai Dynasty constructed a stupa to enshrine the ashes of his father, King Kham Fu. A few years later, additional viharas and auxiliary buildings were added, and the final complex was named Wat Phra Singh.
From 1578 to 1774, during the third Burmese occupation of Chiang Mai, the temple was abandoned and fell into disrepair. It wasn't until 1782, when King Kawila ascended the throne of Chiang Mai, that the temple was restored. Later, the oldest vihara - Wihan Lai Kham and the elegant temple library - Ho Trai were renovated.
The ancient vihara - Wihan Lai Kham, built in 1345, is a classic example of Lanna architecture and houses the famous 'Phra Singh Buddha'. The murals inside are also very eye-catching and extremely valuable.
The main stupa - Phrathatluang, built in 1345, was later expanded several times. The base of the stupa is square, with the front half of an elephant protruding from each side.
The temple library - Ho Trai is another classic example of Lanna architecture and is one of the most beautiful temple libraries in Thailand. The guardians on either side of the staircase are composed of lions emerging from the mouths of Makaras, a combination rarely seen elsewhere.
