3 Days 2 Nights Trip to Ranong.
A 3-day, 2-night trip to Ranong, a charming secondary city bursting with natural beauty. Known as the "City of 8 Months of Rain, 4 Months of Sun," it has it all: mountains, natural hot springs, and the pristine Andaman Sea. This well-rounded itinerary is perfectly designed for a relaxing, laid-back getaway.
🗓️ Day 1: Check-in at Ranong, Nature & Healing
Morning: Arrive in Ranong & Pay Respects at Sacred Sites
Upon arrival, stop by Wat Baan Ngao to worship "Luang Phor Deebuk," the world's largest tin Buddha statue, for good fortune.
Midday: Check out Ranong's Signature Spot
Visit Phu Khao Ya (Grass Hill or Bald Hill), a treeless rolling hill covered entirely in grass. If you visit during the rainy season, the hills will be lush green; in the dry season, the grass turns a beautiful golden hue. It’s picture-perfect from every angle.
Afternoon: Soak in Natural Hot Springs
Relax and unwind at Raksa Warin Hot Spring, a nationally renowned natural hot spring. The mineral water here is pure and free of any sulfur smell. There are both public foot baths and private soaking pools, perfect for soothing travel fatigue.
Evening: Step Back in Time
Visit the Rattanarangsan Palace (Replica), a palace built entirely from golden teakwood. Located on Niwet Hill, it offers a shady atmosphere and a stunning viewpoint over Ranong city. Afterward, check into your hotel in town and enjoy some spicy, flavorful local Southern Thai food.
🗓️ Day 2: Choose Your Island Vibe (One Day Trip)
For your second day, I recommend picking a full-day sea tour (One Day Trip) that matches your lifestyle:
Option A: Slow Life, Chic & Cool ➡️ Visit "Koh Phayam"
Take a 30-40 minute speedboat ride from the Ranong pier to Koh Phayam, often called the Maldives of Thailand. Rent a scooter to explore the island, feel the ocean breeze, and snap photos at Hin Talu (Pierced Rock) at Ao Khao Kwai (Buffalo Bay). Check out the offshore temple, Wat Koh Phayam, and chill with a drink at the Hippy Bar—a uniquely designed wooden bar right on the beach. Return to the mainland in the evening to sleep in Ranong.
Option B: Snorkeling & Andaman Coral ➡️ Kam Islands, Yipun Island, and Khangkhao Island Trip
Book a one-day trip to Laem Son National Park. Take a long-tail boat to Koh Kam Tok (Ao Khao Kwai), where the curved beach resembles buffalo horns and the water is crystal clear. Continue to Koh Yipun and Koh Khangkhao, which boast powder-soft white sand and excellent shallow-water snorkeling spots with vibrant coral reefs.
🗓️ Day 3: Cafe Hopping, Forest Hot Springs, and Departure
Morning: Soak in Forest Hot Springs
Head to Baan Pornrang Hot Spring, located within the Namtok Ngao National Park. The vibe here is shadier than Raksa Warin as it's surrounded by lush forests, with a cool stream flowing right next to the hot springs. You can alternate between soaking in hot and cool water while listening to the birds singing—pure bliss!
Midday: Cafe Hopping & Souvenir Shopping
Enjoy some great coffee and pastries in Ranong city, which now features many chic minimalist or Sino-Portuguese style cafes. After that, shop for famous local souvenirs like traditional roasted cashew nuts (Kayu), Ranong shrimp paste, or Thap Li steamed buns.
Afternoon: Head Home
Make your way to the airport or bus terminal for a safe journey home.
💡 Additional Tips for Your Ranong Trip:
Best Time to Visit: If you want to explore the Andaman Sea and its islands, aim for November - May. But if you crave lush green grass hills and cascading waterfalls, the rainy season (June - October) offers a wonderfully green and romantic atmosphere.
Must-Try Food: Roti at Raksa Warin Hot Spring, Yawa (a local dessert), spicy Southern Thai food, and fresh seafood right by the fishing pier. 🌿🌊
