Route: Navigate directly to Sijinlaco Lake, located at the border of Mozhugongka and Sangri, about a 2-hour drive from Lhasa city center. There is no entrance fee in winter. The lake surface has started to freeze; on the shaded side, the ice is thick enough to walk on. The loop trail around the lake is clear, about 8 km long, taking approximately 3-4 hours to hike. Although the distance is not long and there is little elevation gain, the overall altitude is close to 4900 meters, so caution is advised based on your physical condition. Every time I pass by Linla Road, I see the entrance near Rido that leads to Sijinlaco Lake, but I’ve always been in a hurry and never stopped to check it out. It seems like many tour groups visit here, and from photos, the lake doesn’t look particularly stunning, so I never thought it was worth a special trip. On a Sunday with nothing much to do, and since the lake is probably frozen, it should feel different. I didn’t have any other special places I wanted to visit, so I decided to drive there alone for a stroll. I arrived at the scenic area around 11 am, parked, and slowly walked toward the lake. From a high point, the first view of the lake wasn’t very blue, possibly due to the lighting, and the ice was very white, so it wasn’t that breathtaking. I leisurely walked clockwise along the lakeshore alone. It was very quiet all around, no other hikers on the loop, the weather was nice with no wind, and it felt warm while walking. At high altitude, I didn’t dare to walk too fast, taking photos along the way. The lakeshore was frozen, and I could casually pick up some sparkling ice chunks to play with. Even though I didn’t meet anyone, I wasn’t bored alone. After walking more than two kilometers, I saw some standalone small houses by the lake, which turned out to be hotels. At nearly 4900 meters altitude, staying here must take some courage. I climbed the mountain behind the hotel, where many boardwalks have been built, connecting Love Square and Wealth Square. There’s even a music-listening plaza at a high point. No wonder this scenic area charges an entrance fee; they have many attractions. The grass by the lake was densely covered with snow rhododendron trees. I imagine in summer, when the purple rhododendrons bloom against the blue lake, it must be especially beautiful. I plan to come again in summer. Walking slowly while playing and taking photos, I was eventually caught up by a few groups of people doing the lake loop. Seeing some of them confidently walking on the ice, I dared to tentatively step onto the ice myself, sitting on it to eat, take photos, and have fun. It was really enjoyable. The lake surface shows different shades of blue from different angles, which is quite interesting. It seems most visitors to Sijinlaco Lake are couples, focusing on leisure and entertainment. However, I could hear girls complaining about their boyfriends’ poor photography skills along the way, haha. In winter, Sijinlaco Lake is frozen, the weather is relatively stable, it’s beautiful and fun, and there aren’t many people. There’s no entrance fee, and it’s quite close to Lhasa, so you can make a round trip in one day. Nearby, you can also visit Rido Ski Resort and Rido Hot Springs. If you’re not afraid of altitude sickness, consider coming here for a weekend trip.

Today, the Winter Solstice coincides with Tian She Day, a very auspicious day. After skiing, there’s still plenty of time, and Sigong La Cuo is not far from the ski resort, so I stopped by to catch some good luck. Sigong La Cuo is a famous Caishen (God of Wealth) Lake in Lhasa, or rather, in Tibet. I came here once in the summer for work, and visiting in winter this time gives a completely different feeling. The lake surface is gradually freezing over, and the cracks and bubbles on the ice look especially beautiful. The winter tourism season in Tibet has just started, and Sigong La Cuo has waived the entrance fee, only charging a toll fee. Friendly reminder: Sigong La Cuo is at a relatively high altitude.
