It is a station on the JR Hokkaido Kushiro Main Line and one of the stops of the popular sightseeing train, **"SL Winter Wetland (Winter Wetland Steam Train)"** every winter. This small station is usually quiet and simple, but it can be very lively in winter. Starting from Kushiro, the SL Wetland slowly moves along the Kushiro Wetland, where you can enjoy the vast snowfields and frozen wetlands along the way, and even have the opportunity to see wild red-crowned cranes. Shibecha Station is the relay point or return point of this journey. Many passengers will stop here for a short time to take pictures of the dreamy scene of the steam train spewing white smoke and stopping in the snow. The station is not big outside, but there is a warm waiting room and a simple sales counter, and many railway fans can also be seen gathering here to take pictures.
