Situated in western Poland along the banks of the Warta River, Poznań boasts a population of over half a million. It is Poland's fifth-largest city and serves as the vibrant political, economic, and cultural hub of the Greater Poland region. In the 10th century, Poland's very first ruler was baptized in the Poznań area—a momentous event widely considered the birth of the Polish nation. Over the centuries, the city has weathered numerous regime changes and the ravages of war, including Prussian rule, the German Empire era, and World War II. These historical shifts have cultivated a rich, diverse culture that beautifully blends German and Polish influences. Today, Poznań is a premier travel destination. Its Old Market Square is celebrated for its dazzling, brightly colored Renaissance architecture, with the iconic Town Hall standing out as the ultimate centerpiece. Additionally, Poznań Cathedral, one of the oldest churches in Poland, serves as the final resting place for several of the nation's earliest rulers.
