Qinghai is stunning, but visiting from July to September is not recommended because it’s just too…
Qinghai 3 days 2 nights | Sacred lake blue · mirror lake pure white · Qilian pastoral cloud full guide (July–September exclusive)
Qinghai is known as China’s most beautiful highland secret. July to September is the peak season, with rapeseed flowers blooming by the lake, endless green grasslands, crystal-clear salt lakes, and gentle Qilian mist. This area combines highland lakes, sky salt lakes, alpine meadows, valley Danxia landforms, and Tibetan culture. The climate is dry and cool with a big temperature difference between day and night, perfect for light highland vacations, natural healing, niche aerial photography, and relaxing on the grasslands. It’s completely different from the northwest Gobi or the water towns of Jiangnan.

5. Pitfalls to avoid (highland specific, brand new and unique)
1. Attraction pitfalls
❌ Visiting salt lake at noon: harsh glare, mirror surface looks white and washed out, best to visit early or late
❌ Only visiting paid Qinghai Lake spots: lesser-known lake viewpoints along the loop are more natural and less crowded
❌ Delaying entry to Zhuo’er Mountain until afternoon: morning sea of clouds is magical, afternoon wind disperses mist and views are ordinary
2. Highland altitude sickness pitfalls
❌ Moving vigorously right after arriving in Qinghai: slow down your pace slightly
❌ Ignoring day and night temperature differences: short sleeves during the day, jacket needed in the evening, easy to catch a cold
3. Transport pitfalls
❌ Hailing private cars roadside on the lake loop: open roads with fast traffic, unsafe
❌ Driving blindly to rush: long distances and many photo stops on the loop, easy to get tired
4. Spending pitfalls
❌ Renting expensive clothes and props at attractions: bringing your own light-colored clothes and sunglasses is more cost-effective
❌ Buying overpriced Tibetan jewelry and souvenirs randomly: affordable old shops in the city are more reliable
