Snow-breaking cherry blossoms at Kuwatayama
📍Kuwatayama
Roughly halfway up Banjamori, the "Yukiwari Sakura" (snow-breaking cherry tree) blooms, famous for its beautiful deep pink flowers.
Its official name is "Tsubakikanzakura" (camellia winter cherry tree).
This cherry tree is very rare, blooming during the cold season when snow still remains, from mid-February to mid-March, and there are nearly 1,000 of them in the entire Kuwatayama area.
Although it is called "Yukiwari Sakura" locally,
its official name is "Tsubakikanzakura" (camellia winter cherry tree),
and it is believed to be a hybrid of Shinamizakura and Kanzakura or Kanhizakura.
It is said that it was grafted onto a rootstock given to it by Matsuyama City about 70 years ago.

📍Narunashi Shrine/Kochi Prefecture
#FreeHotelStay #Kochi #DomesticTravel
About 40 minutes by car from the tourist spot, Kurei Taishocho Market, we next visited Otonashi Shrine, which has a lovely name⛩️
It is also known as "Tosa's Miyajima" because the shrine and approach, which are important cultural properties, are built facing the sea, and it seems to be the most powerful spot in Kochi👀✨
It was very windy because it was right next to the sea, but the dignified silence combined with the solemn atmosphere really got to me~☺️🫧

📍Otonashi Shrine, Kochi Prefecture
Otonashi Shrine is located in the Narunami area, deep in Uranouchi Bay in Susaki City, Kochi Prefecture.
Built in 460 AD, the current shrine building was rebuilt in 1663 (the third year of the Kanbun era) and is designated as a national important cultural property.
It is the original shrine of Tosa Shrine in Kochi City, and every year on August 25th (new calendar), the Shinane Festival, a brave summer festival featuring a fleet of boats carrying portable shrines, is held, and on August 23rd (old calendar), an ancient event called Chiriheppo (the great autumn festival) is held.
It is also known as the god of matchmaking, and many worshippers come from all over the country.

[Kochi] A shrine with a god of matchmaking
📍Otonashi Shrine
Visit "Otonashi Shrine" located in Susaki City, Kochi Prefecture⛩️
It's a shrine for matchmaking⛩️, so if you're looking for a lover or have someone you like, please come and visit😊
The fortune slips you can get here are made of special paper that dissolves in water, and it seems that it's common to throw them into the sea after drawing them!

You can eat delicious bonito tataki on the spot😋
For takeaway, the raw bonito that has just been grilled on the straw is immediately vacuum-packed.
They serve it with plenty of ice, so even though it's a little far from Kochi City, it's the height of bliss to be able to take this tataki back to your hotel and eat it💓

Kochi / Observation deck overlooking the Pacific Ocean
We stopped here as a break from driving 🚗
The view of the clear blue Pacific Ocean from the observation deck on a sunny day is very relaxing 🌊
The view of the Pacific Ocean from the parking lot is also very beautiful ✨
It seems to be a spot for motorcycle touring
There were many motorcycle riders there 🏍
There were a few cute cats, and there was also a shop where you could get some snacks◎
We bought some ice cream and spent the time relaxing ☀

Shikoku Pilgrimage + Seto Inland Sea Cycling Tour
DAY 16:
Today's cycling journey can be said to be over mountains and across rivers. The weather was gloomy. I kept praying to Kobo Daishi to protect me from rain. After leaving the city of Kochi, we drove along National Highway 56 towards Shimanto City. This journey of more than 100 kilometers was like riding on the Northern Yi Highway. The title of "Kochi Training Center" is well deserved. Along the way, I also saw several hiking pilgrims. Although it seemed that I was only accompanied by my own shadow, I never felt lonely during the hiking journey because there were two of us walking together. I admired them from the bottom of my heart.
At the end of today's trip, I was able to complete the only two single-day rides of over 100 kilometers in the Shikoku Pilgrimage.
Visiting the Shrine:
◎Beige Wuban Daizenji Temple
◎Sanjushitan Iwamotoji Temple Ceiling Painting, Pop Art Stairs
Accommodation: Nakamura Daiichi Hotel, Shimanto City
Today's cycling distance: 122 kilometers
Cumulative cycling mileage: 1041 km

Katabirazaki Observation platform parking area
#familytrips2024 It's a spectacular view. You can see the Pacific Ocean. There are a lot of winding roads to get there, and it seems like a lot of local young people come here to run. From the parking lot you get a great view of the ocean. Also the drive to here as you head towards Shoryu-ji (#36) is really stunning on a nice sunny day.
One of Kochi Prefecture's bike touring spots. The view from the parking lot is good, but the view from the observation deck is also the best. The sea view on a sunny day will soothe you.
