Julie and Josh guided our group of 39 on a 14-day trip of a lifetime (March 2–15, 2026). Our travels took us from Auckland through Hobbiton and Wellington, to the rivers of Mirkwood, the mountains near Rivendell, the breathtaking sights of Edoras, and the fields of Pelennor, before concluding in Queenstown. The Experience: This tour grants exclusive access to filming locations from The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. The coach, nine hotel stays, and daily breakfasts were all exceptional. While we had no dietary restrictions, we noticed those requiring accommodations were well taken care of. With perfect weather throughout, we’d advise following pre-arrival tips to organize visas and cash, as currency will be needed. The Logistics: The 3–4 year wait turned out to be completely worth it. All payments and travel requirements were clearly outlined well in advance. We received our itinerary sketch in January—a helpful hint: book any optional activities early! The mountain and river treks are strongly recommended; they are worth the extra effort. The Finale: Don’t book a flight home right after the tour finishes. Though the fellowship may part ways, flights aren’t available the same day. The final full day in Queenstown, filled with optional activities, is built into the package. It’s a fitting farewell to Middle-earth—a stunning, essential send-off before your departure the following morning. Verdict: If you’re a Tolkien enthusiast, this is not to be missed. The coffee is always excellent, love Peoples beans. They also have a good range of cabinet food which often gets discounted at the end of the day. The service is usually pretty good. Coffee is one of the best coffees you can get this day in Wellington. Always creamy and velvety milk foam on the cup, the coffee beans combination with milk is so gooooood as well.
