To get her park at the Lake Blanche Trialhead at Brighton, UT 84121 and start your 11km hike out and back. This is not an easy route and generally it takes about 6-7hours for the entire trial as you have to climb certain rocks. But of course the trails starts of easy but gets harder almost half way thru, this is a popular area for hiking and you will meet other fellow Hikers but do look out for the trail markers to guide you to the top. This hike is worth it and make sure you bring ample water and food to enjoy your well deserve break at the top of the mountain with the scenic Lake. Driving north from Los Angeles along the Rocky Mountains, you cross deserts, the Colorado Plateau, and canyons. The red rock canyons of Utah look like the earth’s original form. Before leaving Canyonlands, we decided to make the most of the remaining highlights of the "Island of the Sky" in one last quick visit! Although time was limited, the sheer scale and mystery of these two spots completely broadened our horizons. 🪐 The Mysterious Meteorite Crater? Upheaval Dome: We initially thought it would be an easy view, but upon arrival, we discovered we needed to use both hands and feet to climb some mountain paths to see the full view (Figures 2-5)! Due to time constraints, we focused on the First Overlook area. 💡 What exactly is this white mountain range? Looking down, a strange, folded mountain range, white and green with red rocks, rises from the center of the basin (Figure 1). This place remains a geological mystery! Currently, there are two main theories: one is that it's a meteorite crater formed by the bounce of a giant meteorite impact millions of years ago; the other is that it's a "salt dome"—an ancient salt layer deep underground that was compressed and deformed, pushing upwards. Regardless of the type, seeing it in person is incredibly breathtaking, resembling the crash site of an alien spaceship! 🏞️ Green River Overlook (Photos 6-7): Next, we quickly moved to the Green River Overlook. Standing atop the cliff, looking out into the vast, deep basin, the Green River appears as a thin ribbon, carving deep imprints on the earth – a testament to the sculpting power of nature. 🦅 Bird's Head-Shaped Dead Tree in the Wilderness (Photo 8): We stumbled upon a wildly shaped dead tree by the roadside. From this angle, it looked exactly like a giant bird's head pointing towards the sky, a work of art sculpted by nature itself. 🧭 White Rim Road for the Brave (Photos 9-10): After chatting with a National Park Ranger at the observation deck, we looked down at the dirt road stretching along the edge of the basin – the White Rim Road. The ranger said that to truly drive down into the basin and explore this route, you need a high-clearance, extreme 4WD vehicle, and it takes a full three days and two nights to complete one loop! Hearing this, I was filled with awe. We didn't have enough time this time, so this is definitely on my list of future hardcore challenges! 🚗 Traveler's Ramblings: Goodbye Canyonlands! After catching the perfect sunrise at Mesa Arch, we came to another ultimate viewpoint in Canyonlands—Grand View Point. Taking on this 2-mile (about 3.2 km) round-trip trail is truly heart-pounding. The sheer vertical drop at the edge of the cliff is insane; every step you take makes your heart skip a beat! Here, you'll truly understand why this area was given such a dreamy name as "Island in the Sky." We felt like we were floating in mid-air, with deep rift valleys beneath our feet and an otherworldly blend of desolation and majesty unfolding before our eyes. 🗺️ A Sneak Peek at the Trailhead (Pic 2): Standing in front of the Grand View Point Overlook interpretation panel, looking at the introduction to geological evolution, the textures of the distant canyons stretch out before you. This "alien adventure" has officially begun! 🧗 A Test of Courage on the Cliff's Edge (Pic 1): Standing on the edge of a jagged rock under the blazing sun, with a bottomless vertical cliff behind me. Taking photos at a time like this literally makes the soles of your feet tingle! ☁️ The Origin of the "Island in the Sky" (Pics 3-4): Looking down from the edge of the towering mesa, a labyrinth of massive canyons carved hundreds of meters deep crisscrosses the landscape. The plain we are standing on really feels like an isolated island floating above the clouds. 🕳️ A Giant Scar on the Earth (Pic 5): Looking from afar, a colossal crater sinks into the earth. That is Monument Basin, where stone pillars stand straight like ancient totems, giving off major sci-fi vibes. 🦅 Braving the Edge of the World Again (Pic 6): Stepping up to the frontlines of the cliff once more! When you stand at the tip of the rock, facing the wind and gazing at the horizon, the vastness of the universe and the insignificance of humanity instantly hit you. 🪐 The Boundless Frontier at the Trail's End (Pics 7-8): Finally reaching the end of the trail! This is where Canyonlands offers its most expansive views. Endless panoramas just explode into view. Early the next morning, before the sun even cracked the horizon and braving the bone-chilling winds, we were already posted up here. There was no other goal—our entire trip to Canyonlands National Park was purely for the Mesa Arch sunrise. Period. In the biting cold air, with hands trembling, everyone held their breath, waiting in quiet patience. The moment the very first ray of sunlight pierced the horizon, all the freezing and waiting instantly paid off in an unparalleled, mind-blowing spectacle! 🌅 The First Glimmer (Pic 2): The sky was just starting to turn pale, washing the horizon in a soft golden hue. It's desolate, epic, and looks straight out of Avatar or the surface of Mars! ⛰️ Sun Rising, Everything in Focus (Pics 8-9): As the sun climbed higher, the intense daylight highlighted the raw textures of the entire canyon. The once-dark red rock cliffs suddenly showed off their intricate layers, revealing the stunning, sharp lines of nature. 👥 The Start of a Perfect Day (Pic 10): Looking back at the other travelers who camped out with us, tripods and massive camera lenses were scattered all over the rocky slope. The legendary Delicate Arch, here we come! This hike turned into a crazy chase for the sunset—thighs burning, adrenaline pumping! Watching the sun slowly dip while pushing through the uphill grind... thank goodness we made it at the last second! That stunning twilight silhouette was absolutely worth the hustle! 🗺️ The Prelude: Mapping out the route (Pics 2-3): We checked out the iconic Delicate Arch Trail sign before heading up. It’s a 1.5-mile (about 2.4 km) trek one way, entirely uphill. Trudging up the steep Slickrock definitely takes some serious stamina and grit! 👥 Shadow Dancers in the Sunset (Pics 4-7): On the way up, the slanting rays of the setting sun cast super long shadows. After a long drive across nearly 500 miles of barren wilderness, we finally made it to Moab! I couldn't wait a single second and immediately drove straight into **Arches National Park**! Basking in the scorching, dazzling afternoon sun, the "highlight prologue" of this road trip officially kicked off. This place is essentially an open-air modern art museum carved by Mother Nature over millions of years—every turn is an absolute visual stunner! 🏙️ The Canyon of City Giants — Park Avenue Area (Pics 2-3): Right as you enter the park, this is the first thing that blows your mind. Towering sandstone fins line both sides of the road, looking exactly like the skyscrapers of Manhattan's Park Avenue. After wrapping up the Anaconda Tree spur of the Peekaboo Trail, we looped back to the main Navajo Loop. Waiting for us was the most hardcore and jaw-dropping finale of the entire hike — passing through "Wall Street" back to the trailhead. This whole stretch felt like traversing through an alien planet: 🪵 Checking in at a hidden spot — a fleeting glimpse of the third landmark: Shortly after cutting back to the Navajo Loop, we stumbled upon the third officially recognized Benchmark (Figure 2). The photo on the signpost was blanketed in snow (Figure 3); it looks like this landmark would be even more striking and full of contrast when covered in white during the winter. 🪵 Breaking into the slot canyon — swallowed by blazing red walls: As soon as we stepped into the famous Wall Street section, the trail instantly narrowed. Massive red rock walls shot straight up into the sky on both sides, and under the refracting sunlight, the canyon walls glowed a fiery red, as if scorched by a raging inferno (Figure 4). Towering ancient trees fought their way up through the narrow crevices (Figure 5), making anyone standing below feel incredibly tiny. 🪵 Special ops-level killer climb — crazy Martian hairpin turns: The ultimate cardio test had arrived! The dirt path ahead morphed into ridiculously steep, back-to-back zig-zag switchbacks (Figures 6-7). Gasping for air as we climbed, with endless gravel underfoot and a barren, glowing orange world all around under the blazing sun (Figures 1 & 8), it genuinely felt like we were spacewalking on the surface of Mars! 🪵 Wild Thor appears — the famous Thor's Hammer: Gritting our teeth and pushing higher, we finally laid eyes on the legendary "Thor's Hammer" (Figure 9)! Standing proud and solitary in the valley, it's a true testament to nature's uncanny craftsmanship. Not having a zoom lens on hand was definitely a bummer though, so we could only capture its majestic glory from a distance. 🪵 A God's-eye view finish line — one last gaze over beautiful Bryce: We finally summited, absolutely crushing that last mile! Standing at the overlook for one final glance back (Figure 10), an endless, perfectly layered panorama of Bryce Canyon rolled out beneath the blue sky. The hellish steep slopes we had just conquered now transformed into a breathtaking masterpiece right before our eyes. Measuring this classic trail with our own two feet left our legs feeling like jelly, but that unmatched sense of accomplishment from conquering the climb out of the narrowest canyon floor all the way back to the top to overlook this red miracle was simply off the charts! To avoid any regrets, we made a last-minute decision at the junction to take a short detour along the legendary, more challenging Peekaboo Trail, just to see the second largest landmark here! Afterwards, we rejoined the Navajo Loop. Although the hike was strenuous, the rewards were incredible: 🪵 The awe-inspiring red walls – Gazing up at the Wall of Gods: As soon as we turned the corner, we were immediately surrounded by towering orange-red rock walls on both sides (Figure 1), burning red under the intense sunlight. Standing at the bottom of the narrow valley, the sky above was a pure, clear blue. 🪵 A brief detour – Exploring the left for a bit: Seeing the sign for Navajo Loop / Peekaboo Loop (Figure 2), we decided to take a short detour to the left. The most beautiful scenery on a trip often lies in these impromptu forks in the road. 🪵 Thrilling Climb – The Ascent and the Summit Celebration: The ascent of Peekaboo was truly strenuous (Picture 3). Under the blazing sun and with the constantly rising steep slopes, it was time to test the willpower of any special forces soldier! Finally reaching a high point with a panoramic view, I couldn't resist standing on a stone pillar and giving a small fist-pump celebration (Picture 4). The view behind me was simply unbeatable! 🪵 A Grand View of Stone Sculptures – The World Cup Trophy and Beautiful Rock Figures: The Hoodoo rocks on the mountain were even more densely packed. While walking, I suddenly discovered a stone pillar that looked exactly like the "World Cup trophy" (Picture 5), 99% similar! Turning around, the valley was filled with layers upon layers of beautiful Hoodoo rocks (Picture 6), arranged in a picturesque way under the sunlight, breathtakingly beautiful. 🪵 Twisted Ponderosa Pine – The Legendary Python Landmark: Finally found it! The star landmark here – the twisted yellow pine tree (Picture 7)! Up close, its branches (Figure 8) are incredibly intricate, coiling and twisting like a giant python. The large card illustration (Figure 9) adds to its mystique; its vitality is truly astounding! 🪵 Back to the Main Story – The Elf Throne in Backlight: After a satisfying visit to the Serpent Tree, we circled back to the Navajo Loop. Unexpectedly, on our way back to the main storyline, the sun was directly overhead at the Hoodoo Pillar. Sunlight streamed through the cracks in the rocks, bursting into dazzling starlight (Figure 1)! The entire rock formation, backlit, transformed into a mysterious dark silhouette, beautiful as an elven throne! Although my legs were nearly worn out, the joy of "taking the wrong path but finding the perfect view" is something only hikers understand!
