I've dreamed of visiting Italy my entire life. And finally, this country made it onto my around-the-world itinerary! 🗺 I was granted a single-entry Schengen visa for 22 days. I applied directly through the consulate, without any agents. As for the documents, it was just the basics: an application form, accommodation and flight bookings, insurance, bank statements, and a travel itinerary. Nothing overly complicated. I managed to visit 3 cities, and each left me with completely different emotions. 📍 Molveno My first stop was Molveno, which is exactly where the European Championship took place. We came here to compete with our Russian swimming team. It's an incredible spot nestled between mountains and a lake, filled with an atmosphere of sports, support, and international connection. Events like this always remind me of how sports unite people from all over the world. 📍 Venice Next, I headed to Venice, a city that truly blew me away. Narrow streets, canals instead of roads, and a constant feeling like you're inside a fairytale. I was lucky enough to catch the carnival, too. At night, Venice feels completely different—peaceful, beautiful, full of atmosphere, and in some empty streets, even a bit spooky. 📍 Rome The next stop was Rome. I walked around so much here. I visited the Colosseum, both inside and out. It was purely breathtaking; I stood there for hours imagining how people's fates were decided here, and how the gladiator battles went down... The Roman Forum, the Trevi Fountain, and countless streets in the city center. Wandering around the city was incredibly fascinating. 🇻🇦 A separate highlight was visiting the Vatican: the smallest country in the world. It's amazing that right inside Rome, there's an entirely independent country with its own history, vibe, and thousands of pilgrims from all over the globe. 💡 A few tips for anyone planning a trip to Italy: 👉 Bring comfortable shoes; you'll be walking a lot. 👉 It's best to buy tickets for popular attractions online in advance. 👉 Leave your place early in the morning. Fewer tourists and more atmosphere. 👉 Taking food to go is cheaper. Cafes always include a fixed cover charge (coperto) of €2-8 per person in the bill. Coffee at the bar is cheaper than sitting at a table—a true Italian lifehack ☕. 👉 Don't try to see everything at once; it's better to truly feel the city. 🍝 Must-try foods in Italy: Margherita pizza, pasta carbonara, pasta bolognese, lasagna, tiramisu, gelato, prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, and an espresso at the bar. 🇮🇹 A few facts: Italy is one of the countries with the most UNESCO World Heritage sites in the world, and almost every region has its own distinct cuisine, dialect, and culture. After the war ended, the establishment reopened to the public, continuing to delight guests with its unique atmosphere and quality food. This cozy, atmospheric place is filled with the aromas of cheese, herbs, and Italian hospitality. Deciding to try local dishes, we ordered the classic "Venetian-style liver" and flavorful "Spaghetti with meatballs." Both dishes turned out to be delightful: the liver was tender, infused with the subtle sweetness of onions, while the spaghetti featured generous chunks of soft meatballs in a light tomato sauce. Venetian-style liver is a signature dish of Veneto's culinary tradition, a burst of flavors rooted in the city's history. The simplicity of the recipe highlights the quality of the ingredients: tender veal and sweet white onions are slowly cooked to create the perfect blend of texture and taste. Polenta added a touch of rustic charm, rich in tradition and passion for good food. This recipe is passed down through generations, celebrating the simplicity and authenticity of Veneto cuisine, inviting you to rediscover the true flavors of the past. After seeing the guide "Explore Italy with 500 Euros Per Person," I excitedly planned a similar six-day, five-city itinerary. But after traveling with my child, I realized this is really a "college special forces" guide, totally unsuitable for families! The so-called "cost-effectiveness" comes at the expense of comfort, safety, and family experience! The heartbreaking story of following the "special forces" route with a child: 🚂 Transportation nightmare: The guide recommends the "arrow-shaped high-speed train," which is indeed fast. But with a child and large luggage, frequently changing cities, finding hotels, and storing luggage made every day a battle. Train stations have many stairs and few elevators, carrying luggage was exhausting. The child was also stressed and couldn't rest well. 🏨 Accommodation traps: A budget of 262 euros per person for lodging means staying in very remote homestays or poor-quality hotels during peak tourist season. We traveled with a child and had high safety and hygiene standards, so our accommodation costs far exceeded the budget. 🍝 Out-of-control food expenses: A 326-euro per person food budget is not enough to taste local delicacies. A proper Italian meal easily costs 80-100 euros for a family of three. This was my second visit to 1000 Coffee & Bakery in Venice—and somehow, it was even better than the first. You know a place is doing something right when you find yourself walking past a dozen cafés just to come back here. The coffee is proper—smooth, bold, and made right every time. You don’t need to overthink your order here; whatever you get, it just hits. And the pastries? Ridiculously good. Fresh, flaky, and dangerously addictive. I had one… and then immediately went back for another. No regrets. The vibe is relaxed, the staff are super friendly without being over the top, and everything just feels easy. No tourist-trap energy—just great coffee, quality food, and people who know what they’re doing.

Excellent spot for a quick lunch in Venice. The cicchetti we had all was delicious. I asked one of the ladies for her recommendations and she suggested several of the small sandwiches; codfish, spicy salami, etc. Not one disappointed, nor did the ice-cold draft beer. Got the chance to dine at one of the oldest coffee shop in Italy & in the world. Caffè Florian, opened on December 29, 1720, is the oldest coffee house in Italy, located in St. Mark's Square in Venice. Staffs were friendly & accommodating, service is fast too. We were seated inside & it feels nostalgic to be inside a 305 years old cafe. We had affogato & hot chocolate & it's the best despite the price still worth a visit. We had tuna sandwich as well & its good.

We had a great dinner here. We were skeptical of some of the restaurants in the crowded, touristy areas, but we were pleasantly surprised with our experience here. It definitely didn't feel like a tourist trap/mid-restaurant, but rather, a nice dinner experience in a beautiful location. The lasagna was very good and the view of Rialto Bridge from our table was awesome. Glad we stumbled upon this place for our dinner in Venice.

The Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, commonly abbreviated to the Frari, is a church located in the Campo dei Frari at the heart of the San Polo district of Venice, Italy. It is one of the largest churches in the city and it has the status of a minor basilica. The church is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. The imposing edifice is built of brick and is one of the three notable churches in the city that retain most of their Venetian Gothic appearance. In common with many Franciscan churches, the exterior is rather plain, even on the front facade. The exterior features a bell tower that was repaired in the early 2000s for structural problems. The interior is notable for many tombs and works of art that accumulated in the centuries after it was built. It contains many very grand wall monuments to distinguished Venetians buried in the church, including a number of Doges. Many of these are important works in the history of Venetian sculpture, including that by Donatello. Paintings in situ include two large and important altarpieces by Titian, the Assumption of the Virgin on the high altar and the Pesaro Madonna in a chapel.
