🍓 The Seongsu Dessert Everyone Was Queuing For!
#must-tryfood
Now I understand the line! 😅 In Seongsu, people weren’t waiting for bagels at all — they were queuing for Hanjungsun (한정선), a take-away dessert shop famous for fresh fruit chapssaltteok, Korean glutinous rice cakes.

What makes them special is the combination: soft, chewy rice cake on the outside, filling inside, and often a whole piece of fresh fruit in the center. 🍓 The shop is especially known for strawberry versions, but the menu goes much further — depending on availability you can find gold kiwi, whole tangerine, pineapple, persimmon, red-bean butter, yogurt versions and even Dubai-style mochi.
And honestly, the presentation is half of the experience. 🎁 Each piece is wrapped like a tiny colorful Korean lucky pouch. That isn’t random: the packaging is designed around the idea of bok (복) — good fortune or blessings — which makes these feel almost like little edible gifts rather than ordinary sweets.
That also explains all those bright yellow, orange and red bundles I saw lined up behind the glass. At first I genuinely couldn’t understand why everyone was queueing for them. 😂
🍓 The classic fresh strawberry chapssaltteok is around ₩4,200, while more elaborate limited versions can go up to roughly ₩6,500–7,500. Some flavors are made only in limited quantities and can sell out, which is another reason people arrive and queue.
📍 The Seongsu shop is only a few minutes from Seongsu Station Exit 4, and it’s essentially grab-and-go — there aren’t tables for sitting inside. The queue is common, although Seoul’s official tourism guide notes that it generally moves quickly.
For me, this is exactly what your perfect dessert in Seoul should be: something that looks beautiful, has a local story behind it, and feels very different from the desserts I normally encounter while travelling. 🇰🇷✨
Would you queue for one of these fruit mochi — and which flavor would you choose first? 🍓🥝🍊 #hotdiscussions
