II. September autumn travel guide (seasonal highlights)
1. Weather & outfits (top priority)
The temperature difference between day and night in the Huixian mountains in September is 10°C+: 26–30°C during the day, only 15–18°C in the morning and evening, and even cooler after rain in the mountains.
✅ Outfit plan (onion-style layering): Short-sleeved T-shirt + thin long-sleeved jacket + long pants; non-slip hiking shoes are a must;
✅ Extras: Thin windbreaker (essential for sunrise in the morning/evening), umbrella, sunscreen, mosquito repellent;
✅ Water play: You can wade in the shallow water at Baoquan Fish Scale Dam. Bring a pair of water shoes; no need to go fully into the water (the water temperature is cool in September).
2. Transportation (self-driving only recommended)
· Self-driving: Asphalt roads the whole way, mountain roads are gentle; fill up your gas tank before entering the mountains, as gas stations are very rare deep in the mountains; download offline maps in advance (weak signal in the mountains).
· Public transport not recommended: Very few shuttle buses between scenic areas; transferring wastes half a day.
3. Ticket reference (no summer discounts in September, buying online in advance is cheaper)
1. Baoquan: Grand Canyon + Yatianxia combined ticket approx. CNY 198 (includes scenic shuttle); Grand Canyon only CNY 108
2. Wanxianshan (Guoliang): Ticket + scenic shuttle approx. CNY 107; private cars cannot enter the Cliffside Road, must take the scenic shuttle
3. Baligou: Ticket CNY 62 + shuttle CNY 30
4. Bigan Temple: Ticket approx. CNY 40

IV. September autumn tips to avoid pitfalls
1. Water volume: September is just after the autumn flood season, Baoquan and Baligou waterfalls have abundant water, making it the second most beautiful season of the year, second only to July–August; best scenery after rain, with clouds surrounding the canyons.
2. Accommodation booking: Be sure to book rooms 2 days in advance for weekends; there are very few homestays in Guoliang Village, and it's easy to have no rooms if you book last minute.
3. Pace: Try to enter mountain attractions early; fog in the mountains in the afternoon affects visibility.
4. Diet to prevent autumn dryness: Order more millet porridge, wild vegetables, and stewed free-range chicken; eat less oily and spicy food; bring plenty of drinking water, as prices in mountain convenience stores are on the higher side.
5. Parking: All recommended homestays have free parking on-site; no need to park in paid scenic area parking spots.
