Wetzlar travel guide and discussion

Wetzlar is a city in central Hesse, Germany, nestled along the beautiful Lahn River. With a population of around 56,000, it is a destination steeped in rich history and profound culture. During the Middle Ages, Wetzlar was a free imperial city of the Holy Roman Empire and served as the seat of the Imperial Chamber Court. In 1772, the renowned German literary giant Johann Wolfgang von Goethe worked here as a legal trainee. His experiences in the city inspired his masterpiece, The Sorrows of Young Werther, earning Wetzlar the proud title of the "City of Goethe." The Old Town is home to numerous well-preserved half-timbered houses and medieval structures. The highlights include the Wetzlar Cathedral, which beautifully merges Romanesque and Gothic styles, and the Old Stone Bridge arching over the Lahn River. Additionally, Wetzlar is a world-famous hub for the optical industry. It is the birthplace of the Leica camera, and Leitz Park draws countless photography enthusiasts from around the globe. The perfect harmony of historical heritage and modern technology makes Wetzlar an incredibly captivating tourist destination in central Germany.

For Leica camera fans, this hotel is a must! Located in the Leica kingdom, the surroundings have everything you could wish for: a museum, shop, café, and even what seems to be a photography school. There's also the Leica headquarters and a lab where you can observe researchers working on new lens innovations. The price is around 5,000 THB per night, and in the morning, it's just a 2-minute walk to the museum. However, the bed is quite low to the ground. If you're visiting Germany and are a Leica camera enthusiast, don't forget to stop by this city and stay at Vienna House By Wyndham Ernst Leitz Wetzlar.
