While in the area, be sure to visit Valdez Glacial Lake and Fish Hatchery, where you'll likely see bears, sea otters, and sea lions. 🐟Chitina, McCarthy Road and Kennecott Copper Mines. Head east from Glennallen, past massive volcanoes and pristine tundra lakes, into Wrangell Saint Elias National Park. McCarthy Road is gorgeous from beginning to end. ✨Watch the Aurora Borealis. Depending on the level of solar activity, you can view the Aurora Borealis from anywhere in Alaska. Download the app called Aurora and look for solar activity in more southern parts of the state to view the auroras. If you go in the winter, I highly recommend taking the Dalton Highway to the Brooks Range. 🚞Hatcher Pass, just an hour north of Anchorage, this location allows for easy access to the mountains. This beautiful area is one of the best places to photograph the Aurora Borealis near anchorage.
