Wuyi Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
A truly niche travel destination in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai! Go there for the May Day holiday!
Hi, I'm YeYe
Jinhua Wuyi, this low-key small county, hides ancient villages wilder than Songyang and stunning natural scenery. If you are looking for a short trip destination for the May Day holiday with fewer people, then Wuyi is definitely an option not to be missed. Next, let me take you to explore the charm of Wuyi.
🗓Itinerary:
Day one at noon: 📍Niutoushan Forest Park, ticket 110, cheaper if booked in advance.
This place is known as the 'Little Jiuzhaigou of the South of the Yangtze River', with a very high forest coverage rate and the air is filled with the fresh scent of trees. I walked deep into the forest along the path, enjoying the dense trees and the fragrance of birds and flowers. A real-life version of the Emerald City! There are really few people!
After coming down the mountain, I ate at a nearby farmhouse delight, had soup dumplings and taro dumplings with a unique taste, not bad, and the bamboo tube rice was really fragrant, strongly recommend trying the local dishes.
Day two:
📍Shanxiabaocun, Yuyuancun, free!
First, I went to Shanxiabaocun. This village is also full of ancient charm, with simple folk houses and quiet streets that made me linger. I walked on the cobblestone road, feeling the sediment of the years and the weight of history.
📍Afternoon: Exploring Yuyuancun
This village, known as the ancient village of Taiji celestial phenomena, is full of mystery and charm. The South Song Dynasty cave master temple, Yuan Dynasty Lisheng Bridge, Ming Dynasty ancient tombs. The village is not big, but you can feel that every place here is full of stories and traces of history.
After finishing the tour in Yuyuancun, I started to prepare for the return trip. Whether it was the adventure in Niutoushan or the visit to the ancient villages, they all left me with beautiful memories. If you also want to, why not come and experience it yourself. Recommended to come in April or May.
📝Note tips:
If you need to buy tickets, it is recommended to purchase them online in advance, which will be cheaper.
The ancestral halls in the village will charge a fee, and the preservation is not high, just look at the photos.
After getting to the parking lot at the entrance of Yuyuancun, you can walk along the stream, and at the end, you will see the few attractions I mentioned
A one-day greenery-trampling route that not even all Wuyi locals may know! Few people!
As a native of Wuyi,
I would like to recommend my hometown to everyone!
Today, I am recommending a one-day tour route that is less crowded, scenically beautiful, and rich in cultural heritage.

Let me recommend a place that I think is off the beaten path but very comfortable
Today, I want to share with you 5 of my favorite hidden gem towns. They are not only beautiful but also rarely visited, making them true niche paradises. 👣💎
1️⃣ Zhejiang Jinhua. Wuyi
In the spring months of April and May, the rolling tea mountains and the pristine ancient villages here are like beautiful landscape paintings. Baocun village at the foot of the mountains remains one of our favorite ancient villages to this day. 🌄🏞️
2️⃣ Anhui Huangshan. Yi County
In the autumn months of November and December, apart from the popular ancient villages of Hongcun and Xidi, there are lesser-known ancient villages and attractions here, such as Lucun, known as China's number one wood carving village, and Bishan Village, which has been visited by the artist Lian Jiushi. 🍂🏰
3️⃣ Zhejiang Quzhou. Kaihua
From April to September, at the turn of spring and summer, the Majinxi River runs through the city, offering picturesque scenery. There is not only the spectacular 5A tourist spot Gen Palace Buddha Country, but also a roadside restaurant recommended by Chen Xiaoqing, the director of 'A Bite of China'. 🌊🥘
4️⃣ Guangdong Qingyuan. Liannan
During the spring and autumn seasons, the karst landscape, terraced fields, and streams here form exquisite scenery. The area is rich in ethnic customs, and the thousand-year-old Yao village retains the simple Yao culture. Liannan cuisine is also super delicious. 🌲🍚
5️⃣ Zhejiang Shaoxing. Shengzhou
In the spring and autumn, this place is a paradise for snacks, with numerous delicacies. Surrounded by mountains and converging rivers, the terrain is rich, with mountains and water, ensuring you can eat from morning till night without repeating a meal! 🍢🏔️

Yuyuan Taiji Xingxiang Village Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Jinhua's Mysterious Ancient Village: Yuyuan Taiji Astrological Village
Jinhua Wuyi Yuyuan Village: With ancient charm and legendary star constellations.
In Jinhua Wuyi, this ancient and mysterious land hides a dazzling pearl—Yuyuan Village. Here, Ming and Qing ancient buildings are densely packed, with wood and brick carvings so lifelike, it's as if one has traveled back to that distant and prosperous era.
Yuyuan Village, a village laid out according to 'celestial bodies and star constellations,' every corner is filled with mystery and legend. The 8-hectare giant Taiji diagram at the entrance of the village further highlights the ancient people's reverence and worship of nature and the universe. To the south of the creek, the 'Yin fish' ancient trees reach for the sky, while to the north, the 'Yang fish' rice fields are golden yellow. The S-shaped stream acts like a boundary between the Yin and Yang fish, dividing the fields into 'two Taiji elements,' creating a stunningly beautiful pastoral painting.
Here, you can experience the simple and elegant village architecture, with flying eaves and corners, blue bricks and white walls, all exuding the vicissitudes and charm of the years. The well-preserved group of ancient Ming and Qing buildings in the village, especially the Yu family's ancestral halls and other historical sites, are important windows to explore historical culture.
In addition to its rich historical culture, Yuyuan Village also has unique folk customs. Every year on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month, villagers dress in Hanfu, release lanterns, make wishes for blessings, watch ancient plays, and celebrate the 'Dream Fulfillment Festival' together to commemorate the dreams and grace of their ancestors. Here, tradition and modernity are intertwined, allowing you to taste history while also feeling the tranquility and harmony of the countryside.
Jinhua Wuyi Yuyuan Village, an ancient village that makes people linger and forget to return. Not only does it have a profound historical and cultural heritage, but it also has unique natural landscapes and folk customs. Stepping into Yuyuan Village is like entering a historical labyrinth, intoxicating and irresistible.
Great hermits hide in the city, while lesser hermits hide in the wilderness
⭐Starting from Yanfu Temple and driving along the national road, you can reach Yuyuan Village.
⭐To be precise, Yuyuan Village is not a tourist attraction. It's just that you have to buy a ticket to visit large ancient buildings like the Yu Family Ancestral Hall, which costs 40 yuan each. Many villagers still live in the village, especially the elderly. There are almost no commercial facilities such as shops, restaurants, hotels, and B&Bs. The degree of commercialization is much lower than that of Yunmiao Village in Youfengli, and it's completely different from tourist spots like Zhouzhuang, Xitang, Zhujiajiao, Dali Ancient Town, and Lijiang Ancient Town. Therefore, you should be mentally prepared before you go, especially regarding dining. It's not easy to find a place to eat in the village.
⭐Yuyuan Village was established in the early Ming Dynasty. It is said that Liu Bowen arranged the farmland, rivers, and buildings according to the positions of Taiji and the stars, which has since protected Yuyuan Village from floods and allowed it to thrive continuously to this day.
⭐The village is filled with ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, with the most representative being the Yu Family Ancestral Hall, built in the middle of the Ming Dynasty. Over 500 years, history has left deep marks on the architecture, and the ancestral hall itself is a history book recording the Yu family and the people and events of Yuyuan Village.
⭐Yuyuan Village is quiet, serene, good for photography and strolling, but it doesn't feel like a tourist destination. Over-commercialization is off-putting, but the inconvenience caused by a lack of commercialization is also obvious, and this issue will trouble me throughout my three-day, two-night trip in Wuyi.

The foremost ancient structure in the south of the Yangtze River
Yanfu Temple, located in Taixi Town, Wuyi County, Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province, was originally built in the second year of the Tiancheng era of the Tang Dynasty (927 AD) and rebuilt in the fourth year of the Yanyou era of the Yuan Dynasty (1317 AD). It is one of the only three remaining Yuan Dynasty buildings in the south of the Yangtze River. Yanfu Temple covers an area of more than 4,500 square meters, with a building area of 1,000 square meters. The existing architectural complex is arranged along the central axis, consisting of a three-bay mountain gate as the first entrance, a three-bay Hall of Heavenly Kings as the second entrance with a single-wall hip-and-gable structure. The third entrance is the five-bay Mahavira Hall with a double-eave hipped-gable roof, in front of which there is a longevity pool. The fourth entrance is the seven-bay Guanyin Hall, with the central three bays as the main body, flanked by two-story wings on each side, and east and west wing rooms. There is a stone well on each side in front of the hall. The main hall of Yanfu Temple has completely preserved the style and structural features of the Yuan Dynasty's wooden bracket architectural art, providing a good example for studying the transitional development of architecture from the Song to the Ming Dynasty.
Off-the-beaten-path but incredibly comfortable travel destinations, you definitely can't miss these places!
