July in Anshan is seriously underestimated, okay? 🍃 There are no tourist crowds like in Dalian, nor the sweltering heat of Shenyang. The mountain breeze carries the fragrance of grass and trees, and most importantly, prices are incredibly low. A three-day, two-night trip can be very comfortable for just 800 yuan per person. 🥟 Let's start with the food. Anshan people really know how to eat! Niuzhuang meat pie deserves a shout-out. It's a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage, and that's no exaggeration. The crust is so thin it's translucent, and one bite and the beef juice bursts out. Even just sitting outside the shop with a bowl of millet porridge is delicious. The old-established restaurant in Haicheng is so filling you'll be stuffed for just 20 yuan per person. Xiuyan mutton soup is also a lifesaver in the sweltering heat. The milky white broth isn't gamey at all. Soak a flatbread in the soup, and I can easily eat two bowls by myself. Back in Tiedong city, I had a bowl of Lao Siji pulled noodles. Chicken broth with a spoonful of chili oil—a local breakfast staple—costs 15 yuan per person. For a main meal, I recommend the Anshan version of Guo Bao Rou (sweet and sour pork). The old-style version has a higher proportion of vinegar and sugar, resulting in a crispy exterior and tender interior. In the evening, we headed straight to the barbecue stalls. Anshan barbecue is known for its generous portions of meat; grilled lamb trotters with an iced drink were the perfect summer night treat. The Nanguo pears weren't fully ripe yet, so we picked out a couple of unripe ones to take home and let them soften. They have a subtle, wine-like aroma; the title "Queen of Pears" isn't just marketing hype. 🏨 For accommodation, I chose a place near Tiedong Railway Station this time, as it had the lowest chance of being a disappointment. If you want convenient access to shopping and dining in the city center, search for the area around the station/Victory Square on Ctrip. Budget options like the Aikesi start at 139 yuan, while Lifeng and Haotai are just over 200 yuan. The Victory Road night market is right downstairs, with grilled cold noodles and fried chicken racks just downstairs. If your budget allows, head straight for the Anshan Hilton Garden Inn; it's around 300 yuan a night, with new rooms, free parking, and a 10-minute taxi ride from the high-speed rail station. For a relaxing vacation feel, stay at the foot of Qianshan Mountain, like at Zhuoyue Qingshui Bay, which offers private hot springs starting at 470 yuan. After hiking, a soak in the hot spring water amidst the cicadas chirping in the valley is surprisingly comfortable in summer—not too hot, and the night breeze is just right. Remember to check reviews on Ctrip before booking, as rooms in the Qianshan area sell out quickly on weekends in July. ⛰️ Don't try to see too many attractions; three are enough. Qianshan Mountain is definitely the main attraction; it's called the "Pearl of Northeast China" for a reason. The "Thousand Peaks, Thousand Scenery" route goes through Wuliang Temple—Jiabianshi—Tianshangtian—Wufoding, taking about four to five hours in total. Tickets are 80 yuan for adults and 39.9 yuan for the evening session on Ctrip. I highly recommend starting the hike at 6:30 am. In July, Anshan can reach over 30 degrees Celsius at noon, so finishing early and going down for lunch is the most comfortable. The cable car costs 40 yuan one way, saving you a lot of energy. Make sure your shoes are non-slip; you'll have to squeeze sideways through the section with the flat stones, and a heavy backpack will get stuck! 😂 The Jade Buddha Garden is in the city center. A 30 yuan ticket lets you see the world's largest Xiuyan jade Buddha, carved from a single piece of jade weighing over 260 tons. The red walls and warm jade color make for great photos. Afterwards, you can visit 219 Park and sit by Laodong Lake for a while—it's free and a popular spot for locals to stroll. If you want to play in the water, head to Yutangquan Water World. The indoor temperature is constant, so you don't have to worry about getting sunburned. Evening admission is 98 yuan. If you're obsessed with hot springs, go to Tanggangzi—the Tang Dynasty royal hot spring. After applying the hot mud, your skin will feel incredibly smooth. ☔ A few tips, based on my own experience: In July, Anshan's daytime temperatures are around 30 degrees Celsius, and the nighttime temperatures are around 22-23 degrees Celsius, which is quite cool. However, it rains a lot; for the past three years, rainy days have accounted for about half of July's days. A folded raincoat is more practical than an umbrella. On the Qianshan mountain roads, drive slowly in rainy or foggy weather. Sunscreen SPF50 or higher is essential. There's no shade on the mountain, and I was lazy and didn't reapply it on the first day, resulting in a bright red rash on the back of my neck. Qianshan Mountain tickets are valid for two days. Remember to register upon entry; you can save on a ticket if you want to take more photos of the morning mist the next day. Buy unripe Nanguo pears! Buy unripe ones! In the distance, a tall pavilion stands halfway up the mountain—that is the Jade Buddha Pavilion.
