The Wine Vine Hotel

Booking months ahead (Black Friday discounts) we got a very affordable rate for our stay but were unlucky in that the Barossa had an extreme heatwave (38°c - 44°c) every day during our 5 night stay. The AC unit in our room appeared to have a maximum lowest temp setting of 20°c. While the remote let you go lower, the display on the unit always said 20°c and it never really felt very cool. Given outside heat, it didn’t cool the room sufficiently and the AC unit either shut itself off during the day or someone (not us) shut it off during the day, leaving leaving the room to heat up, sadly also warming up our recently acquired wine purchases. The mattress and pillows were comfortable, however, when you untuck the covers for the night the flat bottom sheet comes untucked too. Normal for a hotel, right. No worries I thought, however, I really struggled to tuck bottom sheet back in as the mattress weighs a ton. Seriously, a ton. I had to try and shove the sheet edge into the crack between the mattress and box spring with fingertips which didn’t work very well. The room had a separate WC/toilet room and a separate shower room to the left and right of the vanity. The WC/toilet was quite compact. It had no exhaust fan and only a high sliding window as the only source of ventilation. We couldn’t keep the window open because with the extreme outside temps and with no AC vent in the toilet room, the WC was hotter than blazes when the door was closed and in use. We had to keep window closed and door propped open with large runners to keep the room cool and ventilated, sadly allowing unpleasant odours to waft into the rest of the room. The shower room had a wooden door with no gap at the top and a few inches gap at the bottom. It had no AC vent, no fan, and apart from the gap between the bottom of the door, only a small sliding window for ventilation. With hot water running and no ventilation, the heat and steam build up was overwhelming. Both these rooms could cause a panic attack for a claustrophobic person especially when combined with the heat and lack of ventilation. The tile floor in front of the vanity had lots of hard raised bumps protruding in the grout lines and when stepped on, felt like you were stepping on sharp stones or maybe nails grouted over the top. Reported the issue to management. Throughout the day and night we heard the occasional loud banging type noise. It wasn’t constant, just a bang every now again. We never did figure out what caused it but it was rather annoying. The room was quite dark most of the time. Above the vanity were some small frosted windows covered by a blind that we didn’t notice for the first day or two. The other end of the room had a sliding glass door covered by long black curtains with no sheers under so you couldn’t let the light in and have privacy at the same time. The hotel does not service the rooms daily. The room came with sufficient coffee and toiletry supplies for one day so if you need

Room and bathroom were clean, bed was comfortable. It had crockery, cutlery and microwave as promised. Fridge. We only needed a place to sleep and shower. Had breakfast one morning, bowls easy to clean in bathroom hand basin, although it is small. Lots of hot water in the shower. It's well located, away from main road but convenient to Victor and Port Elliot. Good blinds and curtains to block out early morning light. Suited out purpose perfectly. Toilet paper a plenty!

My wife and I stayed here for just one night to take advantage of some free Vline train vouchers, so, as our host told us,, we were not typical of most travellers arriving at the motel by car. We chose this place because the price was reasonable, previous reviews were good and the location was not far from the Vline coach terminal next to the Visitor Information Centre. Our Queen room was basic but clean, comfortable and well air-conditioned. There were good supplies of cutlery, crockery and snacks, together with a microwave and a toaster. Whilst not serving meals at the motel, our host told us of a cafe nearby. He was charming to chat to and kindly looked after our baggage for us in the free hours between checkout and our coach departure. All up, a very pleasant experience.

This motel is perfect for a short stay when visiting Adelaide via car. Easy to get to being close to the main highways and roads in and out of Adelaide. Rooms had everything you needed for a short stay (except a microwave). Reception charge a $50 deposit for your stay so keep that in mind when checking in, you get it back on checkout but was a little shocked with how high this was considering we’ve been travelling around Australia for the past three months and never had a deposit this high. The rooms weren’t the cleanest and we opted to use our own doona as the one in our room had stains and smelt off, same again with the pillows with my partners one smelling of urine. Wasn’t a bad nights stay for the price, hopefully they fix a few things and I would stay again.

No reception or front counter. To get in is is similar to booking cases at the airport with a computer system at the front door. Had a problem with the operation (probably me) and no sense out of the first phone call for help but no worries with the second call to another number. The place is looking a bit tired in the hall ways however painters are working out side so maybe going to do the interior. The room was good size being an older place, bathroom new and modern, overall a nice room with usual facilities, a look out over the city. 10th floor. Would go back again in the future.

The location is fantastic! We stayed in a loft room with a mezzanine floor and spa. The decor is old but the room was clean. We ate in the bistro which was nice and cozy by the fire and the food was great 'pubstyle food' great for kids too. Would recommend and would stay again. The room costs are extremely reasonable for the location.

In their internet site they say: ”FREE AIRPORT TRANSFERS FOR GUESTS”. So I emailed them and asked for a transfer from the airport. Their answer: ”this will depend on the cleaning of rooms”… What? I emailed them again, and this time their answer was: ”This can be arranged for you”. What do you mean ”can be arranged ”? arrange it! I emailed them for the third time, and this time they said: ”We will endeavor to do our best as long as the flight is not delayed”. Well, the flight was not delayed. It arrived in Coober Pedy exactly on time, and surprise surprise, no one was at the airport to take us! We stood there hopelessly, until a local who works at the airport pitied us and brought us to the motel. Do you think that someone at the motel mentioned the incident? Apologized? Ha! The room was not clean enough. When we turned on the AC, pieces of some sort of trash came flying down from the upper vents. We had to turn it off. The next morning, we put the sign PLEASE TIDY UP MY ROOM on the doorknob. When we came back, we saw that nothing was done. We asked why and got the answer: ”Guests can only use the other side of the sign – DO NOT DISTURB”…

Very clean and comfortable motel. The beds were quite comfortable. The room was spacious and equipped with a refrigerator and plates and cups. The bathroom was a very nice size and the shower was amazing. There is a pool on the property but our stay was too short to take advantage. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful.

Don’t judge a book by its cover. The outside is a bit dated only Our room was so nice and clean and new renovated. The bed is so comfy. The owners and staff are so friendly and accommodating There is a nice outdoor area to sit in at the back of the property Close to everything you will need like pubs, shops, diners, coffee shops and super markets Bus stop across the road to head to the city
