The €25 menu of the day is a solid deal, and it was mostly locals eating there. Felt really welcome as a tourist, and the food was tasty.

Came here for a birthday dinner and honestly it was solid. The mushroom risotto starter was the highlight, really creamy and full of flavour. Scabbard fish and snapper were both cooked right, no complaints there. Service was attentive without hovering, and we got to keep the table the whole evening, which was nice. Not cheap, but you pay for the quality. Would go back if I’m in the area.

Fantastic food, service a bit slow at the start, but we were compensated with a free desert, which was a nice touch. Waitress was lovely and really helpful in the choice of a reasonably priced bottle of wine. Highly recommended.

We greatly appreciated the service as well as the wood in the restaurant, probably one of the best we had while staying in Madeira. Thanks a lot for this nice experience

The steak sandwich was proper filling and didn’t break the bank. Place was packed with locals when we went, had that nice buzz. Service dragged a bit cause of the festival crowd, but the owner still came by to see if we were alright. Good spot to grab a bite with friends. 👍

Loved the grilled sardines here — super fresh and the portion was generous for the price. Owners were friendly too. Place has a nice local feel, nothing fancy but that's the charm.

Stopped by without expecting much, left pretty happy. Food was tasty, came out fast. Service felt genuine, not forced. Been back a few times since, still consistent. That's what keeps me coming back.

Went back four times over the trip—that pretty much says it all. The empanadas come out hot and fresh, made right there in front of you. Owner’s a friendly guy, happy to chat while you wait. Had a nice malbec with mine, worked well with the beef filling. Place is small and gets busy, but worth it.

Lovely meal with family. Really nice restaurant and food was lovely. Will definitely return.

The grilled limpets and mussels tasted properly fresh, like straight from the sea. Bolo do caco with garlic butter was a good starter too. Prices felt fair for what you get, portions are generous. Maybe not the fanciest spot but honest food. I'd go back just for the limpets.

O Calhau de São Jorge is passionate about the food and service. There is a warmth about the place which is borne out in the care and attention to detail in all they do. Having eaten here on several occasions, the food is always excellent and plentiful. The wines come with justified recommendations and are a reasonable price. A very special restaurant in a special location.

Very nice restaurant, now with more tables outdoors. Good sushi and good pokebowls. Still too expensive soft drinks (€2.50 for a small can), otherwise good prices. When you order a sushi combo nowadays you get some spring rolls instead of sushi/sashimi pieces, that feels a little wrong. But a great restaurant, highest grade: 10.

The food was fresh and delicious . The service was amazing. We had the scabbard fish, the pork tenderloin tagliatelle, the Mexican meat and everyone was very happy with their meals.

The grilled octopus was spot on—tender and juicy, honestly better than some I've had in Greece. Squid with potatoes was solid too. Service kept it quick and easy.

The schnitzel was the reason I came and it held up. Big piece, properly fried, not greasy. The apple pie after was decent too. Portion size is generous, that's for sure. Didn't care much about the view or anything else, just focused on the food. Would get the schnitzel again.

Been coming here for a while now, and the mixed meat skewer is still my go-to. That little burger on their homemade bread got me again this time, always a nice surprise. Service was quick, place was clean. Just wish they had a bit more space, gets crowded. But yeah, consistent.

Soup was good, sandwich on that local bread hit the spot. 30€ for two with tea, fair enough for the spot. Nothing fancy but solid.

Came for the view, stayed for the grilled fish. Portions were huge and the vibe was chill. Sat outside, sea breeze did its thing. Service was friendly without hovering. Left full and happy.

Loved the passion fruit poncha with ice — proper local vibe. Snacks were decent, nothing fancy, but fresh enough. Good spot to watch football and chill.

Came for the pastel de nata, sold out. Got the chocolate and cream cheese cake instead—really hit the spot. Decaf espresso was decent.

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! The service was excellent, and the staff were very friendly and attentive. The grilled beef rib I ordered was super tender and absolutely divine.

The restaurant offers a comfortable seating arrangement and fast, friendly service, making it a great spot for a meal at reasonable prices.

We were here for our anniversary and it was the perfect thing for our day. The view was gorgeous and the food was really nice, I even had the banana split although I don’t like bananas at all. The service was also good. They recognized that they were not that noticeable for us but made it up in the end and we were very happy that we decided to go here!

The grilled fish was seriously good — fresh, well seasoned, came with rice, fries and salad. Took a while to arrive, but we were a big group so no big deal. Just don't come starving.

Picking your own cuts at the counter then watching them hit the open fire—that’s the whole vibe here. The beef skewer came out properly juicy, and the grilled pineapple with cinnamon was a nice sweet finish. Place gets busy, so you might wait a bit, but the smoky smell kinda makes up for it.
