Gatwick Express lost property: How to get your missing items back

Losing your belongings is never a good feeling, and can be especially stressful when the item you’ve lost is on a train travelling miles away from you. But don’t worry – if you’ve left your belongings on the Gatwick Express, there’s a good chance you will be reunited with them.

Below, we’ll explain the steps to take to recover your lost item from Gatwick Express and some handy information to make the process go smoother.

How do I get my lost item back from Gatwick Express?

The first step you should take when trying to recover lost property from Gatwick Express is filling out their lost property contact form here. They have partnered with LostProperty.org to process their lost and found items.

The fields for reporting items lost on a train are at the top half of the contact form, where you will select Gatwick Express and your journey details. You will then be prompted to select the type of item you lost and enter the date you lost it.

Once you submit that information and move to the next page, you will be asked to enter further details on your lost item to help them find it as quickly as possible. For example, if you lost a phone, you will be asked to enter information like the brand, model, IMEI number (you can find this out from your network operator) and other details. The more information you include, the more likely it is your item will be matched and returned to you. You may also include a photo of your lost item if you have one.

On the next page, you will be asked to fill in your contact details. This is crucial for being contacted once the item has been found.

If your item is found, Gatwick Express will contact you within 14 days. If more than this amount of time has passed, it’s unlikely your item has been found.

Gatwick Express do not charge fees for items found at their stations, but a management fee will apply for items collected from the lost property centre, ranging from £3 to £20. You can find examples of fees by category of item on Gatwick Express’ Lost Property Page here.

Where can I pick up my lost item from Gatwick Express?

Once Gatwick Express tracks down your lost item, they will contact you to let you know, and you can collect it from their lost property centre at London Victoria station. It is managed by Excess Baggage and located near Platform 8. You can visit between Monday and Friday from 09:00 to 17:00 once you have received notification of your item being found.

You can request your item to be delivered for an additional charge, or nominate another person to collect it.

To contact Gatwick Express by phone regarding a lost item, you can call them at 03458501530 (Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:00; Saturday, 09:00–16:00).

Make sure to give as much information on your item as possible. If you’re ringing for an update on a report you made online, have your reference number ready to go.

Other Gatwick Express lost property information

If your item was lost on a train used by more than one train operating company, Gatwick Express recommends reporting your lost item to the other companies too. They include information on contacting these companies on their lost property page here.
Property that is lost at the Gatwick Airport station is transferred to Gatwick Airport lost property office. Gatwick Airport Lost Property recommends registering your item on lostproperty.org.
Lost passports will be returned to HM Passport Office, but if you’ve only just lost it, it’s worth contacting the Gatwick Express team to see if you can collect it before this happens.
Items will only be stored by Gatwick Express for 90 days, after which they will be donated or disposed of.
