If you’ve forgotten something on a train with LNER, you might be panicking at the thought of never seeing it again. But don’t worry! There’s a good chance you’ll be reunited with your lost item by taking the right steps to report it with London North Eastern Railway.

Below, we’ll break down what the steps are and how you can go about retrieving your lost item once it’s been tracked down.

How do I get my lost item back from LNER?

The steps you’ll take to retrieve your lost item from LNER will depend entirely on where your train was headed to – or, if you lost it at a station, which station you think you left it at.

With a few exceptions, lost property from trains on LNER routes are processed by their partner MissingX. This platform will connect you with lost property offices across the UK, so you can be reunited with your item. You can search for your lost item at this link.

You will start off by searching for your lost item with one word. Then you can choose where you lost it, in our case, a train or train station. Then you’ll choose LNER and the date of travel, before you are brought to the results page, where you can filter by additional details such as colour and station.

Browse the options listed below to see if your missing item is listed there. Bear in mind, it might take a few days to turn up on their system. If you don’t find your item, you can register your item as missing by clicking the ‘Register Lost Item’ button at the bottom of the page.

Some stations on LNER routes follow a different process for handling lost property. If you left something behind on a train to London Kings Cross, Leeds, Edinburgh Waverley or Glasgow Central, you will need to register your lost item on lostproperty.org.

Fill in the details required, and make sure to be as thorough and accurate as possible, as this will give you the best chance at being matched with your lost item. It’s worth noting that LostProperty charges a handling fee for processing your missing items.

Lost property on LNER trains to Scotland (excluding Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Central) is handled by ScotRail. You can contact them here. ScotRail may charge a small fee for processing your lost item.

Where can I pick up my lost item from LNER?

Lost items that are handed in under MissingX processes are stored at LNER’s Lost Property Hub at Newark Northgate. You can also pay to have the item sent to you by courier.

Lost property at LNER stations handled by longproperty.org can be collected from the station where it was found. For example, items found on trains to London Kings Cross can be collected from the Left Luggage office there in the Main Concourse from Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:00. You can also pay for your item to be sent to you.

Missing items handled by ScotRail on LNER routes to Scotland can be collected from Glasgow Queen Street station from Monday to Sunday, 07:00 to 22:00. Unfortunately, ScotRail cannot post your items to you.

You can reach LNER by phone at 03457225333 to discuss your lost property. Make sure to include all details pertaining to your lost item, including dates and time, train details, and identifying features of the item. If you’ve already registered the item as lost, it’s a good idea to have a reference number at hand, if you have one.

Other LNER lost property information

  • LNER stores found items for 12 weeks at their Newark Northgate hub.
  • LNER will search for your item for three months once you report a missing item.
  • If you have lost luggage using the Luggage Buddy service, you should contact Sherpr’s customer service team, who are available six days a week.

If you have left essential medication on an LNER train, you should contact the Customer Solutions Centre as soon as possible. Make sure to mention the train you were on, where you last had the item, and a full description of the lost item.
