TransPennine Express lost property: How to get your missing items back

If you’ve lost one of your belongings on a TransPennine Express train or station, there’s every chance you will still be reunited with it. We know just how stressful and upsetting it can be to leave something behind on a train travelling 100 km/h away from you. It feels like the process of recovering your lost item from a train is an impossible task – but there’s no need to lose hope.

Our guide takes you through the steps to follow when you’ve lost something on a TPE train – from reporting it to collecting it, so you are fully aware of the process.

How do I get my lost item back from TransPennine Express?

TransPennine Express runs trains through stations managed by many different companies. So the first thing you should do is recall the end destination of the train you lost your item on. This will determine the process you start for finding your lost item.

TransPennine Express provides links to the relevant form to fill out for items lost on trains with differing lost property processes. These include lostproperty.org, MissingX, and various Lost Property forms from individual train operating companies. You can find a link to the TransPennine lost property form options here.

TransPennine Express still recommends filing a lost property report on MissingX if you are unsure of the location or train you lost your item on. You should also file a report here if you lost an item at one of TransPennine Express’ stations. These include:

When accessing MissingX, you can first check if the item you lost has already been found by searching for it with one word. You can then choose the location option of Train or Train Station, followed by the United Kingdom.

Next, you should select TransPennine Express as the operator and the date you lost the item. This will bring up a list of found items under your search term from this date and operator, which you can filter by further details such as colour and station name.

If your item is not listed here, you can choose to register your searched item as lost by clicking the Register Lost Item button at the bottom of the page.

Bear in mind, recovering lost items from trains can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, and, depending on the provider processing the return, a handling fee may apply.

Where can I pick up my lost item from TransPennine Express?

Where you collect your lost item from will depend on the end station of your TransPennine Express train journey. For example, if your item was left on board a train terminating at Manchester Piccadilly, or at the station itself, your item will be taken to the lost property office there, located on Platform 10.

The Manchester Piccadilly lost property office is open from Monday to Sunday, 08:00 to 21:00.

When your item is recovered, you will be contacted about details of where it is being stored and collection options. You may also be given the option to have it delivered to your address, usually for a fee.

You can call TransPennie Express on 0345 600 1671, where their Customer Support team will send you in the right direction. It is a good idea to have all the details of your lost item at hand – train journey start and end, description of the lost item, date and time of journey, where you last saw it etc.

Other TransPennine Express lost property information

Items left on TransPennine Express trains may end up in the possession of another train operator, depending on where you misplaced your item.
Found bank cards are usually destroyed upon discovery.
Most lost and found properties will hold unclaimed items for three months before donating, selling or disposing of them.
