What is the 16-25 Railcard?

The 16-25 Railcard is available to anyone between 16 and 25 years old, as well as mature students, and offers a 1/3 discount on many UK rail fares. You can save money on travel at any time, but a minimum fare of £12 applies to all journeys made between 04:30 and 09:59, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays, July, and August). On average, 16-25 Railcard holders save £159* per year.

How much do I save with a 16-25 Railcard?

A 16-25 Railcard typically offers a 1/3 discount on the full adult fare. There is no limit to the number of times you can use your Railcard, although some Railcards can only be used outside of peak times.

How much does the 16-25 Railcard cost?

The 16-25 Railcard costs £30 for one year, or £70 for three years. You can even purchase a on the day before your 24th birthday, and it will still be valid until just before your 27th birthday.

What happens to my 16-25 Railcard when I turn 26?

You will need to renew your 16-25 Railcard before your 26th birthday. If your current Railcard is set to expire after your 26th birthday, you will not be able to renew your 16-25 Railcard, unless you are a mature student.

Can mature students get a 16-25 Railcard?

If you meet the following criteria:

• You are enrolled full-time for over 15 hours of study a week

• You study for at least 20 weeks a year

• You attend a recognised institution (excluding Open University and distance learning)
