It was built as a new central castle to replace Tsuruga Castle (Aizuwakamatsu Castle), but the construction was interrupted on the way due to the conquest of Aizu by Ieyasu Tokugawa, which can be said to be the beginning of the Battle of Sekigahara, and it ended unfinished. I thought that Kagekatsu Uesugi was building a castle in preparation for the battle against Ieyasu Tokugawa, but it is difficult to expand the castle and castle town because Tsuruga Castle is located in the southeast corner of the Aizu Basin. The land here, which was trying to build Shinji Castle, is in the middle of the Aizu basin and built a huge castle town and castle suitable for the Uesugi family of the great daimyo.

１６００ This is a castle built by Kagekatsu Uesugi to Kanetsugu Naoe before the battle of Sekigahara in the year. Due to the conquest of Uesugi by Ieyasu Tokugawa, the castle was canceled just before completion, and it is a phantom castle that I never saw the eyes of the day. Located in the countryside northwest of the center of Aizuwakamatsu City, there is a giant tree called Takase's big tree at the corner of Ninomaru's earthworks. In addition, the remains of the main enclosure remain the remains of stone walls and moats. There is a parking lot and an information board at the site of the main enclosure, but it is not a tourist destination.
