Zhongshan Park is located in Gushan, West Lake, Hangzhou. It was named in memory of Dr. Sun Yat-sen in 1927. The park was built on the original site of the Qing Dynasty Imperial Garden, with the Zhongshan Memorial Forest and the Zhongshan Memorial Pavilion. The layout of the park is very ingenious, combining natural (the scenery of Lonely Mountain) and artificial (pavilions and paths). The unique scenery of Gushan has been famous since the Tang and Song Dynasties. In the Tang Dynasty, there was Gushan Temple. In the Southern Song Dynasty, the West Taiyi Palace and the Four Saints Yanxiang Temple were built. In the Qing Dynasty, a palace was built here. Kangxi and Qianlong lived here during their southern tours. In Yongzheng period, it was changed to Shengyin Temple, and together with Lingyin Temple, Zhaoqing Temple and Jingci Temple, it is called the Four Forests of West Lake. Subsequently, in order to commemorate Mr. Sun Yat-sen, part of the original palace was built as Zhongshan Park in 1927. At the top of the park are Wanju Pavilion, Sizhao Pavilion, Unity Pavilion, and a rockery made of lakes and rocks. From a distance, it looks like floating green clouds, named Green Cloud Path. On the stone is embedded a stele of poems, which depicts the scenery of Lonely Mountain, and is praised as a masterpiece of domestic gardens. After the poem, there is a seal seal "Government is to support the people", which is said to have been written by Qianlong. At the back of the mountain, there are also the statue of chicken feather letter, the Zhongshan Memorial Pavilion, and the Zhongshan Memorial Forest built in 1929. On the stone wall facing the gate of the park, there are two large red characters with strong and vigorous pen, which are said to be the handwriting of the Song Dynasty. There is a stone pavilion on each side of the stone wall, which was built by Hangzhou citizens in the late 1990s to express their gratitude to the overseas Chinese in Nanyang for their assistance to the disaster victims. Going up the steps, you can see a beautiful garden composed of pavilions, rockeries, pools and curved bridges on the east side. In the center of the garden is the Xihu Tianxia Pavilion named after Su Dongpo's poems. A pair of couplets written in different fonts on the pavilion is very eye-catching. This couplet cleverly uses overlapping characters, and the reversed readings are all linked together. Some people fold the folded characters apart, move them slightly, and read it as bright in the mountains, beautiful in the water, beautiful in the mountains and beautiful in the water; good when it is sunny, strange when it is raining, and curious when it is sunny, and it is not interesting.
