Like many other historic sites, they are dependent on volunteers and donations. They have done well to get this far and have some good plans to improve. Our tour was nice with many details pointed out...
We tried to find Fort Hawkins open over a three day period without success! The posted hours mean nothing. It would have been nice to view this little piece of history.
It was closed on a Monday late morning.What else can I say? Too bad. The place looks small but it would have been nice to see some history of the area while we were travelling through.
Gates locked well before sunset, one building, very little information... so sad... this was the cornerstone of Macon and had a very definitive purpose but no way to know it. SAD
