Saw this whilst on the miniature train from Collioure. It was erected in 1783 to commemorate the independence of America.

If you're in Port-Vendres, France go see this obelisk. However, don't go to Port-Vendres, France just to see it. The obelisk is located in a parking lot which says a lot.

The obelisk sits in the parking lot by the harbor where the market takes place on Saturdays. It’s a big spear into the sky but it’s a genuine monument to freedom and worth a short visit.
