The museum is located opposite the Latin Bridge, showing the history of the city from 1878 to the end of the First World War (1878-1918) during the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In 1914, on the north side of the Latin Bridge, the assassination of the Grand Duke and his wife became the trigger for the First World War. The stabbing took place just around the corner of the museum, and a stone tablet embedded in the wall recorded the incident.
