The vast waters of Dongting Lake, the ancient Yueyang Tower through the ages
Yueyang Tower is located in Yueyanglou Street, Yueyanglou District, Yueyang City, Hunan Province, situated by the Dongting Lake and the Yangtze River, built on top of the ancient Yueyang City's Yueyang Gate. It is known as one of the 'Four Great Towers of Ancient China', alongside the Yellow Crane Tower, Tengwang Pavilion, and Penglai Pavilion.
In the 19th year of Jian'an during the Eastern Han Dynasty (214 AD), the General of Crossing the River, Lu Su, began the construction of the Yueyang Tower, which was the predecessor of the present tower; during the Southern and Northern Dynasties, it was known as Baling City Tower; in the early Tang Dynasty, it was called the Southern Tower, and the 'Poet Immortal' Li Bai was the first to refer to it as Yueyang Tower in his poetry, a name that has been used ever since; the existing main structure of Yueyang Tower was mainly rebuilt in the 6th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1880 AD). Historically, Yueyang Tower has been famous for its unique geographical location, magnificent natural scenery, and grand architectural structure. Many literary masters through the ages, such as Zhang Jiuling, Meng Haoran, Li Bai, Du Fu, Han Yu, Bai Juyi, and others, have ascended the tower and left behind numerous famous works, contributing to Yueyang Tower's profound cultural heritage. During the Northern Song Dynasty, the governor of Yuezhou, Teng Zijing, renovated Yueyang Tower and invited his good friend Fan Zhongyan to write the timeless masterpiece 'Memorial to Yueyang Tower', which further established Yueyang Tower as a political symbol of diligent governance and concern for the world.
Due to fires, wars, and other reasons, Yueyang Tower has been destroyed and rebuilt many times throughout history, evolving from a military tower to a city gate tower and then to a scenic tower, now an important part of the national AAAAA-level scenic area 'Yueyang Tower-Junshan Island'. The main tower faces east and west, with a height of 19.72 meters, three bays wide and deep, surrounded by a gallery, with a depth of 14.56 meters, a width of 17.24 meters, covering an area of 251 square meters, topped with glazed yellow tiles, and is a three-story, four-pillar, flying eaves, helmet-top style pure wooden structure. Around the main tower is a modern Chinese-style garden.
In January 1988, Yueyang Tower was announced by the State Council as the third batch of national key cultural relics protection units. On January 30, 2005, Yueyang Tower was selected as one of the top ten cultural heritages of Hunan.
One of the four famous buildings in ancient China, it is worth seeing. Luohe Street is actually a commercial street. It is more beautiful at night. You can buy something to eat when you are hungry, but the homogenization is serious. It is the main building of Yueyang Building in an ordinary snack street. You must go. The scenic spot can go to Yueyang Building and overlook Dongting Lake. You can also see Yueyang Building Ji, the scenic spot is not very big, and it takes only two hours to walk around Xiaoqiao's tomb. I didn't expect Xiaoqiao to be buried here, but I didn't take pictures. Because it was someone else's tombstone, I felt that it was not polite to take pictures.
Although we went to the rainstorm, we still felt the spectacularness of Dongting Lake. Unfortunately, because it was a temporary decision, we did not recite the full Yueyang Building in advance.
When I came to Yueyang for a business trip, I completed my work in the morning, and I turned around in the afternoon and left at night. The traffic is very convenient. The tickets feel a bit expensive, and you can turn around by the way. If you run specifically, it doesn't feel worth it.
A good trip, about three or four in the afternoon into the Yueyang Building Scenic Area, I planned to come out before six o'clock and go to the Internet to say where to watch the sunset. When the whole scenic spot was almost finished, I met a staff canteen. There were some small tables under the shade of the trees in front. Then I went to Dongting Lake. The canteen can be opened to the outside world. We asked for a can of beer and waited for the sunset. It was very pleasant. After sunset, in the park, the surprise is that there are various performances.
The tour guide surnamed Wu patiently explained the whole process. We listened to the taste. This tour of Yueyang Building left us with good memories.
As a Yueyang person, every time you return to your hometown, you must go to Yueyang Tower. You can recite Yueyang Tower at the door to avoid tickets, but there is also event time. It happened to be there when I went. There is Junshan silver needle purchase inside, it is very interesting to watch tea, and the tea is all erected.
Yueyang Building is a famous historical and cultural building in China. It is located on Junshan Island in Yueyang City, Hunan Province. It is known as one of the "three famous buildings in the south of the Yangtze River". Fan Zhongyan's "Yueyang Building Notes" made Yueyang Building famous, and also made Yueyang Building one of the important symbols of Chinese culture. Visiting Yueyang Tower will make people feel the weight of history and the profound cultural heritage. Stepping up Yueyang Tower and overlooking Dongting Lake, I think of the scene where Fan Zhongyan wrote "Yueyang Tower Notes" here, and I can't help but feel thousands of emotions. Standing upstairs in Yueyang will make people forget the troubles of the world, as if they are in a pure world, which is also the charm of Chinese culture. In addition, Junshan Island where Yueyang Tower is located is also a good place to visit. The natural scenery of the island is beautiful, the mountains and clear waters are beautiful, and people seem to be in a fairyland. There are also historical and cultural relics on the island, such as Yuewang Temple, Liu Wei Xilin, etc., which makes people feel the edification and baptism of history. Overall, visiting Yueyang Tower and Junshan Island will make people feel the vastness and depth of Chinese culture and the weight of history, and will also make people cherish the present and feel life.
