Mutawintji National Park

Mutawentki National Park is located 130 kilometers northeast of Broken Hill. 400 million years ago, it was a seabed. After a long period of geological movement, it formed the textured orange color that can be seen today. Rocks, canyons, and ponds, the Australian hedge tree (mulga) grows in the vast land, everywhere is desolate and magnificent, and wildlife such as kangaroos inhabit the area. Australian aborigines have lived here for more than 8,000 years, so there are still stone carvings, rock paintings and other relics reflecting their daily life in the scenic spot. In 1998, after a long-term struggle for the original name, the land was finally returned to its original owner. Today, it is governed by the Mutawintji Local Aboriginal Land Council. To most areas of the National Park, try to sign up for a guided group tour. You can sign up with your local tour operator, contact the BrokenHill Visitors Information Centre for details, or contact NPWS Broken Hill For further enquiries from the NPWS BrokenHill Office, the park brochure provided by the office has a simple map and multiple routes to walk or drive through the park. To visit the park by car, you need to prepare water and food, and you must pay attention to safety. Camping is available at Homestead Creek.
