Honestly, I’m not much of a traveler. I would usually choose staying back at my apartment in Mumbai, tending to my balcony plants or cooking a quiet Sunday meal, over catching a long flight. But a recent family commitments took me to Japan, and we ended up spending a couple of days at the Fuji Lake Hotel.
Getting there was quite a smooth journey, though the weather was rather chilly when we visited—a massive contrast to the Mumbai humidity. What I appreciated most about this property was how well it shielded us from the usual tourist rush. The crowds outside around the lake area can get a bit overwhelming during the day, but once you step inside, it is incredibly peaceful.
After checking in, I realized the hotel is split into two sections. We stayed in the East Wing, which I’d highly recommend if you are booking. The fittings and amenities there are much more modern and updated. The West Wing apparently has great views too, but if you prefer your stay to be hassle-free and comfortable, the East Wing is the better bet.
My favorite spot was actually the lobby. It has these massive glass windows that look out onto the cold, quiet lake. Sitting there with a warm drink was very relaxing. They also have a private viewing deck on the property. The staff mentioned it’s the best spot to watch the local fireworks show without having to jostle with the crowds on the streets.
It is a bit of an investment, but for the sheer peace and the view of Mt. Fuji right from your room, I’d say it’s quite sorted. A very decent break, though I am quite looking forward to getting back to my quiet weekend routine at home now.
