A truly beautiful and inspiring museum in Dortmund, just a short walk from the main train station. Admission is free, which makes this place an even more wonderful discovery.

The current exhibition, “KONSUM,” is particularly fascinating. It explores our relationship with consumption and the objects that surround us in everyday life. The collection brings together an impressive variety of things — beautiful ceramics and tableware, clothing and textiles, furniture, household objects, design pieces and many other items that tell stories about different periods and ways of living.

What I loved most is that the exhibition is not simply about beautiful objects. It makes you think about how our relationship with things has changed, how much we consume, why we constantly feel the need to buy something new, and how consumption has become such an important part of modern life.

Walking through the exhibition, you can enjoy the beauty and craftsmanship of these objects while also reflecting on the problem of overconsumption. How many things do we really need? Why do we keep buying, replacing and accumulating? And what happens when consumption becomes an end in itself?

I found this combination of beauty, history and social reflection especially engaging. You can simply wander through the elegant museum spaces, enjoy the atmosphere and the wonderful collection, but you may also leave with a few questions about your own relationship with possessions and consumption.

There is something wonderfully romantic and nostalgic about seeing all these beautiful everyday objects from different eras — things that were once simply part of people’s homes and daily lives, but today can tell us so much about society, taste and changing values.

A very pleasant, peaceful and thought-provoking place in Dortmund. If you are looking for somewhere to spend a little time surrounded by beautiful objects, culture and history — and perhaps leave with something to think about — I highly recommend a visit. And the fact that it is free makes it even better.
