Discovering Kabul’s flavor gems and hidden gems was the highlight of my recent adventure! 🌟 From mouthwatering shawarma to sweets that’ll ruin you for anything else, here’s how to savor the best bites and a must-see spot in Afghanistan’s capital 👀

Must-See Places:

1. Spin Cake – Your sweet tooth will thank you! This dessert shop is THE spot for a photo-op (yep, that’s us in front of the window 😉). Don’t skip their signature sweets; every bite is unreal and the shelves are packed with colorful treats.

2. Kat-e-naw – For a classic Kabul experience, stop by Kat-e-naw for warm, crispy shawarma. This is the perfect pit-stop between exploring, and the flavors are pure magic. Pro travel tip: Eat here for lunch, then stroll to nearby cafés for tea.

Travel Tips & Hacks:
Getting Around: Kabul is best explored by car—use local taxis or pre-arranged drivers for safety and ease.
Money: Keep small cash handy, as many local spots don’t take cards.
Weather: Layer up! Mornings and evenings can be cool even in warmer seasons.
Food Rec: Shawarma at Kat-e-naw is a true local experience, and don’t forget to try as many desserts as possible from Spin Cake.

It was so windy but incredibly sunny today. We spent the afternoon wandering through the Bamiyan Valley, and standing in front of those massive empty Buddha niches felt completely surreal. Honestly, the scale of the dusty red cliffs against the bright blue sky looked just like a background straight out of a fantasy manga—my illustrator brain was going wild trying to memorize all the colours.

Afterwards, we took a bumpy ride up to Band-e-Amir. The water in those lakes is the most intense, saturated blue I’ve ever seen in real life, almost like a digital paint fill.

My feet are super tired from all the walking, and my headscarf kept slipping off in the wind which was a bit of a struggle, but winding down with a hot cup of saffron milk tea tonight totally made up for it. Missing the Vancouver rain just a little bit less today.
