Runavik Moments: Through Travelers' Eyes

Post
🇫🇴 Faroe Islands -- Runavík Day Trip

Like Greenland, the Faroe Islands are a Danish overseas territory. They consist of 18 volcanic islands scattered across the North Atlantic Ocean, with a population of only around 50,000. The islands are connected by bridges, undersea tunnels, and ferries, making transportation more modern than you might expect!

Our port of call was in Runavík, a small town south of Eysturoy. It was quite far from popular attractions (Cliff Lake, Puffin Island, and Gásadalur Waterfall Village), so it was just a quick tasting. We'll return for a more in-depth exploration in the future.

Since there weren't many attractions near the port, and it was still raining, we casually wandered around town, looked at the lambs raised by locals, and took a stroll around Lake Toftavatn. Then, we headed back to the ship for some food and drinks (you definitely need to eat as much as possible in the last few days before disembarking 😂).

The port didn't have any particularly impressive sights, which was a bit disappointing. But cruise travel has its pros and cons. The "just-drinking" approach is a far cry from my previous independent travels. It's incredibly relaxing, but you can't plan your trip as you please. But honestly, without having to worry about food, accommodation, and transportation, it's perfect for traveling with the elderly.

By the way, the locals are very welcoming of cruise ships docking. They've built a comprehensive docking station, arranged volunteer staff, and even provided free performances.
